A CHANGE IS COMING
I am the Lord, and I do not change. (Malachi 3:6)
Give up your own way all the time. All the time? As I was reading the words of Jesus in Luke 9:23, This was the word I heard in my heart. The key to life is to always choose God’s way. If we try to hold on to our way, we lose our way. Don’t rebel against God’s way or His word. It is a simple plan for a good life.
Oh, it is not always simple. And of course, there are times when it does not appear to be or feel so good but hang in there. God does not change. The verse in Malachi finishes by saying that it is the only reason they are not already destroyed.
Look at the sky again. How far can you see? The Lord has made a way for us to go into that sky far beyond the wonderful atmosphere He created for us. However, outside of this atmosphere is dangerous for us. Even with all of the protections that science has developed for those who leave the atmosphere, a considerable amount of deterioration takes place. The same is true when we separate from God.
When we rebel. When we choose our way over His way we go downhill! Even then, God does not change! He always plans for our return and our restoration. Jesus is the way that leads to life.
Some respond to that with an attitude that is not gratitude! Oh yes, the Jesus thing again! What can I say? Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.
Sadly, even people who say they know that in theory, often feel like they need to add to it. Some people feel that they need to worry. Others feel a need to express their fears. Some people rebel and go off like the Prodigal Son. In all of these, God plans for our restoration. Jesus said that He would be with us and in us. Holy Spirit is always drawing us to God. It is that drawing that we rebel against. We know what is right, but still we resist.
I saw a picture of this today when the cat snuck out. She did not go far from the door because it was cold, but she still had to look around. She would look and look back to see if I was waiting. I went on to other things. When I checked back, she was looking at the door and at me like I was the one who was not paying attention! The sooner we learn to just look to God, the better off we are!
We need a dog lesson too, don’t we? Early every morning I hear the howling of a dog telling me he needs to see me. I thought that was a good idea, so I howled quietly to the Lord. It was too early to be howling around the house. I am sure you catch the idea; always call on the Lord. Make His name known among the people. Remind yourself of how much you need Him and His way always. If we keep our eyes on the Lord, we can be sure change is coming! He changes everything. He changes our attitude. He delivers us from our rebellion. Blessed are they who trust Him.
