A CLEAR DISTINCTION
I will make a clear distinction between your people and My people. (Exodus 8:23 NLT)
God is very clear in His word about how He feels about His children. From the very beginning it has been His idea to show favor to His children. And even when we may not be faithful, He is still faithful to work to bring us to that place of favor.
I would certainly have wanted to be living in the land of Goshen during the time of the plagues. I am also certain that there were many Egyptians who took note of the way God was showing favor to His people. I believe that was part of God’s plan. He loves all people and by showing favor to His people He gave them an opportunity to be drawn into His favor as well.
Israel may have missed the Lord Jesus, but they have never stopped expecting God’s favor. To this very day they expect God’s favor. God made the promise of His favor to them and He does not break His promises. When they call on Him and ask that He do what He promised, He is a God that does not change and He still honors His word. Just think what they would have with Jesus. Many have come to know Jesus as their savior and so they have even more reason to expect His favor.
We should expect God’s favor as well. He made us the promise of an even better covenant. But do we really expect His favor? We really should. Otherwise, we are missing out and so are others. God said that we should let our light shine among men so that they would see His favor in our lives and people would glorify Him because of it. Now some will say that is not right because the actual words say, “men see our good works.” Well I have news for you. Without God’s favor we have no good works. But with His favor what we do produces fruit and makes a place for the goodness of God to grow.
Did you notice that Moses and Aaron walked right through that hailstorm? They were standing right in the middle of it and while it was killing and destroying everything around them it did not touch them. That is the favor of God. We should expect God to do things just like that for us. We should call on Him in every situation and expect His favor. Pretty soon people will see His favor in our lives. That favor may be as simple as giving us joy when it would appear there is no joy to be found. Or it may be a great miracle that leaves our house standing when everything around it is dust. In between those two pictures there are a lot of other favors you can attribute to God. If you find a good parking place you can declare God’s favor. If you hit all green lights you can declare Gods favor. Even if you hit a red light, you can declare God’s favor.
The point is, we should expect there to be a distinction in the way God acts for us. If we expect it, we will see it. If we see it, we will declare it. If we declare it others will hear. If they see it enough they will want it.
