A HEART FOR GOD
The Lord God says: O Israel, you have sinned greatly, by letting the uncircumcised into my sanctuary...those who have no heart for God(Ezekiel 44:6&7TLB)
It is a sad thing in deed, that people sit in churches who have no heart for God. Some have simply made church a habit. Others are there because someone made them come. There are even those who come simply to mock and disrupt. I heard a man testify once that he went to church and the greeter asked him if he was saved. After reading this scripture I can see a great reason for asking people that at the door.
Now some will say that is why we have church, so we can get people saved. The truth is we have church to worship God! What a concept that is! Really, think about it. The temple is to be a place of worship and praise. Certainly the door is open for people to repent and be saved, but that is not to be the focus of the worship service. It is to be a time of giving God glory and entering into His presence.
A person may find themselves in church not knowing why they are there. That person has probably been drawn by God. And if others who are there have a heart for God, the presence of God will draw that one into the kingdom. Still, we must remember that the purpose of the worship service is to focus on God.
So then, the question is, DO YOU HAVE A HEART FOR GOD. Is your focus in life to live for Him, to please Him? Do you long for the times when you can gather to worship God? Do you love to spend time with Him alone? Do you talk with Him, and get advice from Him? Do you consider Him in everything you do? After all, the Bible does tell us that if we are going to say we are in Christ, then we ought to walk like Him.
God was mad at Israel for letting people into the sanctuary that could care less about Him. So how do you suppose God feels if we come to church and wish we were somewhere else, or can not wait till it gets over so we can do something “more important.”
Listen, God has great plans for our lives, but we will never realize the fulfillment of them if we do not set our hearts on Him. We must consider the attitude of our heart. We can not just have a “no big deal” attitude about God and the things of God. He has known our hearts from before the time they began to beat. How long do we think we can stink up the sanctuary with a bad attitude and get away with it.
God is moving by His Spirit in wonderful ways, and those whose hearts are set on Him, will receive all His promises. The line is being drawn, and those who will may step into His presence. Those who will not, will be shut out. Don’t read this and grumble. Rather read it and begin to praise God. Ask forgiveness for the times you have had no heart for God. I know I did when I read this scripture. I thought I am always ready when church starts, but want about out on the street, or in my home. You see, we are the temple now. So if we are going call ourselves Christian, we must always have a heart for God.
