A MESS TO A MESSAGE
But Jesus said, "No, go home to your friends, and tell them what wonderful things the Lord has done for you and how merciful He has been." (Mark 5:19 NLT)
If you have been a Christian for any amount of time, you know about scriptures like, all things are possible with God, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, and God is able to do abundantly above and beyond all we could hope or ask. You have heard them, said them, and even seen them produce fruit. But even hearing, knowing, and experiencing the word, we still miss so much of what God can and will do in and through our lives.
When Jesus came into the life of this demon possessed man he was a mess. He was such a mess that no one cared to come around him except to gawk at him from a distance or put him in chains. He was hopeless and a lost cause in the eyes of all who lived in the region. It was probably for this very reason that God planned a stop on Jesus journey in this very place.
The man ran up to Jesus and fell at his feet. Were the demons trying to hide? They will do that, you know. But when they are discovered they will try and destroy whatever they can. They knew they were powerless against the power of God that was in Christ Jesus. In an instant, this man who was a mess became a message. First, he was a story that others ran and told about, and then when he wanted to go with Jesus, Jesus told him to stay and tell his story to all who would listen.
Don’t you know that Jesus did this same thing for all of us? If we have Christ in our hearts, if we are saved, then Jesus has taken the mess that we were and turned us into a message. The transformation of our lives is testimony of the power of God. He arranges stops all over the world for the purpose of destroying the works of the enemy. The devil is the enemy of our souls and he does all he can to put messes in our paths. But if we are wise, we will see that every mess offers an opportunity for a message. As the mess is swallowed up in victory, the message is made clear once again that no weapon formed against us can prosper and all who rise up against us will fall.
Believe me, I know how it feels when the messes pile up. It sometimes seems like one mess attracts another, before we can get the first one taken care of, but by faith we know that God is able. And if we will only fall at Jesus feet we will see our deliverance. Then suddenly we will see ourselves fully clothed, robed in His righteousness and at peace with our minds intact.
The completion of the victory cycle is in the testimony. The testimony is not only in what we say but also in how we live. An even further testimony is in how we handle the next mess that comes around. May God help us to see messes as opportunities to clean up on the devil and his ways. Then truly every mess will turn into a message that glorifies God.
