One day of each year is set aside to honor mothers. Of course God said that mothers should always be honored! A mother is a mother even if a mother is a mother in title only and she is not filling the position perfectly, she is still mother. At the same time, another might be filling the position and she also is mother. So, a mother is a mother always; and those who mother are mothers also by virtue of being what the position indicates.

Mother’s day stirs any of a number of emotions due to any of a number of circumstances. There are those who despise the person who gave them birth. There are also those who long for and miss mothers who have died. There are also children who long for the love of a mother who deserted them and at the same hate them for deserting.

Truly Mother’s Day is an emotional day on many levels. That said, a mother is a mother no matter what. The status or behavior does not change the fact that when a woman gives birth she is a mother and that position is forever remembered by God. It is also forever remembered by the mother, and often searched for by the child.

No mother intends to be a terrible mother. Another scene from the movie “Blind Side” shows Michael’s birth mother trying to look presentable and caring but then she breaks down and says she does not even know much his life or have much of a memory of the man who was part of the pregnancy. She did not want to be a terrible mother. Her heart was wishing but her mind and body were not cooperating. At the same time, Michael wanted her to fill the position, but it just never happened.

If we want to see how God loves and cares, we can look at the heart of a mother, because He put in mother’s hearts the way of love for a child. Of course this is the place that the devil loves to destroy. Go ahead and convince a woman that the child she is carrying is not a child and that she is not a mother and she can abort with no problem. Well maybe one giant problem that is not mentioned and that is the thing that God put in their hearts concerning that position. That part does not abort with the baby. So now you have a mother that is a mother and a baby that is gone. Fortunately the baby is gone to be with the Lord, but the mother is left with torment that only God can relieve.

Many do not believe this of course. They justify the act and reject the peace that only God can give, but just as a mother is a mother, so the truth is the truth. And still, performance does not change the position that God has reserved for every person. Just like a banquet where there are name tags for each guest. Only the person named can sit in that spot. God has provided the way to the seat for every person who has or will ever live. Jesus made the way, the Holy Spirit longs to guide us to our seat.

May every Mother and child find peace and joy in Jesus on this special day!
