Have you ever heard the alarm clock and just wanted to stay right where you are. Or have you had someone wake you and you were so comfortable that you just snuggled down and pulled the covers over your head. I think it is safe to say that we have all had that experience. Or have you ever been awakened in the midst of a dream and wished you could get back to finish it.

These are the times when we want to push aside everything else to just stay where we are. Sometimes we think oh I will just stay a few more minutes and an hour goes by before we know it. These really do become times of special rest. Personally I have experienced times when it seemed like I never really entered into a sound sleep until after the alarm went off.

Well, God promises a special rest for the people of God. It is a place where we can just pull the covers up and enjoy the peace that passes understanding. That place of special rest is in His presence.

The other day, I curled up next to God on my couch. To the natural eye it was just me on the couch, but to me it was a wonderful time in His presence. So today, I knelt to pray and I said, “God that was such a wonderful time yesterday, I think I will just curl up the same way.” So I got back up in that same position and once again I felt His wonderful presence. We all know that it had nothing to do with any position, it had to do with the desire to get back to that same place with God. The attitude of our heart is so very important. “Help me get it right all the time Lord.”

Well, as we all know, when we get into that special place with God we are suddenly bombarded with random thoughts, we hear every noise we remember everything we need to do, and it drive us crazy. It was then that it struck me that this was much like the times we would prefer to sleep and just pull up the covers and stay right where we are. I said, “go away I am staying right here with God.” I began attack every distracting thought that came and I fought to stay right there. When things still tried to distract me, I got mad. I thought anything that tries to keep me from God is unrighteous. Jesus hated unrighteousness and I should too. I determined to stay right there no matter what.

Oh my it was well worth the fight to experience that special rest and to be in His presence. We all need to do what ever it takes to get there whether it is for a minute or an hour or all day long. The truth is, I believe God intended that we live in it. The more we experience it, the more addicted to His presence we will become. Of course we can not just lay around all day, but we can be in His special rest whenever we want, where ever we are, and no matter what we are doing. Just snuggle in!
