ABSOLUTE HOLINESS
And this is the basic law of the temple; absolute holiness!(Ezekiel 43:12a NLT)
This just sounds like to much for God expect. No one is perfect. Who could even come to the temple if that is way it is. These and other thoughts have probably passed through all our minds when we think about absolute holiness. But the priests understood that everything better be just so, or they would not come out of the temple alive. I don’t think many of us ever consider that we might not leave church alive. Nor do we give all that much thought to holiness in our lives or lack there of as we go. We just sort of go! Perhaps we should reconsider our attitudes.
I recently received a letter from the IRS. They said I owed them money because the amount I reported was different than the amount they had reported to them. That was the only year that I had not done them myself, but I was sure I reported everything. Still, I was prepared to just write them a check. Why, because most of us know you don’t mess with the IRS. The Lord however reminded me that there had been a discrepancy in what I was paid by a company and what they had reported. I thought we had that all straightened out, but in fact they had not corrected the report. So, as it turned out, I had reported it right and it should all be fine. The point is, even though I was sure I had not made a mistake, my respect or fear of the IRS made me want to just pay it anyway to avoid any possibility of a problem. When it was all done I thought, “that is how I should be when it comes to God and to His word. Even if I have a hard time swallowing it, my first desire should be just to line up with it, not argue about it.
The point I am getting at here is that we need to have an attitude toward God and His word that is easily molded. Our first thought should not be to resist what it says, but to know that if God requires it, then He also provides for it.
Immediately after telling them about Holiness, God gave them the specifics for the altar, the regulations for the burning of the offerings, and etc. As I read this it occurred to me that a hunger for holiness opens the door for greater revelation. In other words, a desire to be what God wants, opens the door of instruction for getting there. This is probably why we see accelerated growth in some believers and almost none in others.
For sure, Godly sorrow brings repentance, which sets us free to change and continue to be changed from glory to glory. Our response to God’s word must be a resounding YES! This in turn opens doors of revelation and restoration in our lives. Remember, that holiness is defined as being devoted to and set apart to worshipping God with a potential power to destroy evil. This is why God says that we must be Holy even as He is Holy.
Jesus said that He always did what pleased the Father. We want that too! Amen!! (Read all of Ezekiel 43 and enjoy!!)
