AGREEABLE

For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. (Matt.6:8 NKJ)

Have you ever listened to someone pray and thought, “Wow, they really know how to pray. I wish I could pray like that!” I can tell you that I have. Sometimes I can get on a roll praying, but before long I wonder if I am enjoying listening more than God is! Please understand that I am saying nothing against great prayers, I just do not happen to be one. And according to the word it is possible that sometimes, great prayers, at least in public, may not be so much out to bless God, as they are to impress others. I will leave that to God to decide.

What I want to focus on today is the fact that God is more interested in us being in agreement with Him than in our eloquence in prayer! As I was praying, I found myself telling God that I just was not one who I felt was a great prayer. The thing that I find is that when I begin to talk to God about something in depth I end up trying to convince Him why this is the best time and why my way should work! I can only do that so long and then I feel a bit foolish trying to advise God! He told me that He really was not in need of my explanations or extra directions on how things work or might work.

God said that I just need to be in agreement with Him. He said we do not have to necessarily be on the same page as long as we are at least in the same book! He knows what we need and He knows how to best bring it about. Our part is to be agreeable.

We need to agree that He knows best. We need to agree that He has everything figured out. We need to agree that even if we don’t see results, we can and will trust Him for results. I don’t know how to change the world, but He does. He said if His people would humble themselves and pray, He could handle the rest.

I know that some prayers require action as well, but that should be at God’s direction and not because someone else has the idea. So often people will make you feel like if you don’t have the same vision they do that you must not be hearing from God, but this is just not true. Each person needs to allow the Holy Spirit to guide them.

Have you ever been manipulated into something you really did not want to do? Have you ever felt like you had to give a little or give a lot and felt terrible after you did it because it was someone other than God that influenced you? The key is to agree with God and be free enough to just follow what He says.

The bottom line is that we should pray. We should pray at all times. It is not in how many words we pray, but in how agreeable we are with the will of God that makes a difference. Be sure to remember to pray for the peaces of Jerusalem. May God bless your day.
