ALL JESUS
There is salvation in no one else! There is no other name in all of heaven for people to call on to save them. (Acts 4:12 NLT)
If you read through Acts chapter four you can find a lot of favorite things. You can find the way to walk with God. You can find God if you have not found Him yet.
The chapter begins with Peter and John in trouble for a great miracle. They of course gave all the glory to Jesus. It is important if we want miracles that we want them so that they bring glory to Him and to no one else.
As you read, take note that Peter is described as being filled the Holy Spirit as he spoke boldly of the greatness of Jesus. It is not some mysterious thing to be full of the Holy Spirit. It is as natural as can be when one is in love with Jesus. To be filled one needs only to ask and then don’t forget to desire spiritual gifts: another subject to ponder.
Then as now, it was not popular to declare that Jesus is the only name that one can call on for salvation. That did not stop Peter nor should it stop us. It does not matter if it is popular or not, it is true. The truth is the only thing that can set people free. That is what Christians should be about. We should be about the truth. If we are, then people will realize that we are ordinary people who serve the extraordinary God!
If we love Him, then we will be in the same fix as these men who even at the risk of their lives could not stop doing what God wanted them to do. As they did this, God was faithful to confirm the good news with miracles and they were faithful to let everyone know it was God who did the stuff. God always gets the glory.
As a result, we see all the believers gather to praise God and to ask Him for more power to do even greater miracles. There is nothing wrong with asking these things of God. Actually it is wrong not to. He tells us to ask. He tells us to make disciples. What was it that brought more and more people to believe? It was the miraculous signs and wonders.
Today people get confused and think it is the new programs they come up with. Or they think they need a fancy building or some other hook. These things are not always wrong, but they are not what bring people to God. It is the Holy Spirit drawing them. It is people who are amazed by God that fall in love with God. It is people who seek His power, who by that power encourage and lead others to Him.
I encourage you to read this chapter and to be encouraged with what God desires to do for you and through you. Read it until you are saying God fill me with the Holy Spirit and power. I want to do mighty miracles in your name so that you get more and more glory.
