ALL ONE

Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ's body. We are all parts of His one body, and each of us has different work to do. And since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others. God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well.(Romans 11:4-6a NLT)

The greatest desire of Jesus was that we would be one. First, one with Him and our Father, and from that, one with each other. It seems to me that we all spend a lot more time trying to figure out on what grounds we can or can not be one, that we do simply seeking God to make us one. Medical science has shown us how difficult it is when one part of our physical body is rejected. Strong medicines have to be given to get transplants to be accepted. So I guess what the body of Christ needs is the strong medicine of desire for God’s will, so that we can all work together.

Each part does have a special function. In our natural body, if the arm spent all of it’s time trying get the eye to do the right thing or the foot the arm and etc. We would have a messed up body. As it is, each one just does what it was made to do. Consequently, we have eye hand coordination and so on. God made our physical bodies in such a way that each part functions for the good of the whole body. So then, it makes sense that His spiritual body should have the same goal. Each part needs to concentrate on doing our part to see that Jesus is lifted up. Sometimes it looks like each part is fighting to be the head and wanting to claim that their arm is the strongest. To hear some talk, they are the whole body. They may have a poison tongue, only one arm and are blind as can be, but they consider themselves to be God’s gift to the world.

Well, this devotion is not intended to address that issue. The purpose today is to say that each person in the body of Christ is most important to God. Each of us has the ability to do certain things well. God wants to encourage us to do what we have the ability to do to the glory of God. Desire His special spiritual gifts with all you hearts. But even more importantly, have confidence in the everyday gifts you have. When we walk daily doing what ever we do as unto the Lord, we might be amazed at just how many lives we prophesy into. Or how many people are healed simply because we are taking Jesus with us where ever we go.

Don’t let anyone manipulate you into works for the sake of works. And don’t let anyone condemn you for not doing more. This is an encouragement to say that you may be doing more than you think. The enemy is always trying to get us to see ourselves as small and insignificant in the body of Christ. But we must understand that there is no such thing in God’s eyes. He has no superstars. He has a whole family of favorite children.

Each one who chooses to follow Jesus is at the top of His list. Each one has available the presence of God to change their own life and the lives of others as Jesus is revealed through their life. Take joy in knowing that God chose you, and that He has given you all that you need to be all that He chose you for. His grace(the presence of God that enables you to be and do what He called you to be and do)is more than enough. Oh Lord open our eyes to see what we can be when we are all as one lifting Jesus higher and higher.
