ALL THE WAY THROUGH

As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord is thinking about me right now (Ps. 40:17 NLT)

When it comes to letting things go and then leaving them alone, it is so important to remember the Lord all the way through. Even in the natural world, people know of the need to just let things go. Sometimes people are encouraged to remember or relive the things before letting them go, but the ultimate desire it to get people to let the things go that are so destructive to their lives.

Once people have let them go they are encouraged to stay far away from those things. Whether it is an addiction, a behavior, a person, or anything else, there is a need to just keep away from what was destroying them. This of course is a good plan except for the fact that it leaves that thing in the position of power and the person staying away from it in fear of what it might be able to do if one gets close to it again.

Fortunately God has a better way. He says, “Who the Son sets free is free indeed!” God intends that we live in victory over things, not just at a distance from them. This is not to say that even in victory we should not distance ourselves from destructive things but we should do it out of love for God and not out of fear of the power those things hold over us. This is true for things from bitterness to drug addiction and anything else that hinders our lives.

A relationship with Jesus Christ is key in detection, rejection, and removal once and for all of those things that are destroying our lives. It is remembering that God is thinking of us, and keeping our hearts and minds on Him that causes us to want to be rid of those things in the first place. It is knowing He will strengthen us that helps us take that first step of just letting it go. Once we have let it go, it is trusting Him that enables us to leave it alone even when something or someone stirs it up. Because we have the victory, and because we have confidence in God to finish what He has begun, we are more than conquerors of every weapon formed against us.

Finally, it is in keeping our mind on the Lord and on the fact that we know that He is thinking of us way more than we think of Him, that we not only maintain each victory but we are able to build on each victory with yet another victory. For we all know that there are many battles to be fought and won. With each new challenge the process is repeated it begins with trusting God enough to let it go, knowing that it is the only way to move on into victory. Then we need only obey the Holy Spirit when He reminds us to leave it alone and let God keep handling it. Finally we have the freedom to just press on. With God, all things are possible, but without him failure is probable.

God gave us the ultimate advice through the Apostle Paul when He said, “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy–“meditate on these things.”
