ALL THE WISDOM

This is what we pray: that God will make you completely sure of what He wants by giving you all the wisdom and spiritual understanding you need...(Colossians 1:9 ERV)

God knows the plans He has and He knows our ways. His plans never change but our ways can keep us off the main road or get us on it. The picture I had in my mind as I considered this with God was like the Kings Highway that keeps heading to the king and there are on-ramps everywhere but we can choose to go our own ways and do our own things passing under or over getting close but never getting on. That of course does not change what He has planned!

I have heard people who have the idea that God has to keep redoing His plan according to our way of living. It is like God has to scramble with a new plan each time we get on a different road, but this simply is not true. God does not scramble. He does not get confused. Of course it troubles Him when we wander outside of His best, but it never changes His plan. He does know the plans He has for us, it is up to us to know His ways and consider our own ways and desire His plans.

You probably know this, but have you considered that the early church did not have a Bible. It was a bunch of letters responding to circumstances and needs and important directions written to various groups that ultimately became our Bible.

With this in mind, I often consider what prompted Paul or others to write what they wrote and consider whether or not we still have the same circumstances that apply. The answer is always yes! Of course the same things need to be addressed today and this verse in Colossians begins a list of things that are so important for us to experience in order to enter into the plans that God has for us.

We need to be completely sure of what God wants for us; so sure in fact that we resist anyone or anything, including ourselves that disagrees with what God has clearly stated concerning those who believe and trust Him. We cannot allow anything to dilute the truth of what God says He wants from us and for us.

Paul goes on to say how we can and must be completely sure. We have instant access to all the wisdom and spiritual understanding that we need. We simply need to believe it and respond to it. Remember the men on the road who Jesus met and told them everything about Himself and after He left they recognized that their hearts burned within them as He spoke. When the Word of God touches us, we must respond.

As we read on in this spirit led prayer, we see that the ultimate result is that we rejoice and give thanks to God. This reminds me that we are warned in scripture that the time will come people are not grateful. I pray we would never be this way. I pray that we would make a commitment today to seek God for all that this prayer contains and more!
