ALL YOU NEED

Seek first the Kingdom of God and all these other things will be added unto you (Matt.6:33)

I wonder how often we really take the promise of this scripture to heart. Do we really believe that seeking and trusting God has any benefits in this lifetime? The New Living Translation of the Bible says, He will give you all you need from day to day if you live for Him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern. Wow! All that we need day to day; that is a great promise! Let’s face it; we are not a people who like to just live day to day. Admit it, it is true. We want to worry about the what-ifs.

Jesus knew that people spent a lot of time worrying about things that they did not need to. He was trying to get them and us to understand that He could handle anything that we would entrust to Him. He also knew that we would need to do it on a daily basis, or we would find ourselves in a quandary over next week, next month, next year and beyond. Let me give you a personal example. As I have been blessed to get older and now I see 50 coming at me like a speeding train, I found myself thinking about whether or not we would have enough to live on later in life. Now don’t get me wrong it is wise to be a good steward and be prepared, but it is not wise to worry about times that may not come.

In the midst of this I sensed God asking me if I thought that He would take less care of me later than He does now. Of course I knew that the answer to that was a big “No, of course not.” I mean really, do I love my children less as they get older? Am I willing to do less for them? No, as a parent I will do all that I can as long as I can. Well, the good news is that God can do abundantly above and beyond all we can hope or imagine for longer than we can imagine if we will only trust Him!

So the key for us is learning to enjoy His daily provision and see it as being from Him. Then at the end of each day to lie down in peace and sleep knowing that God will do it again tomorrow if tomorrow comes. If tomorrow does not come then we really have it made if we have been made joint heirs with Jesus.

Maybe you are not guilty of this, but I know I am. Of what, you ask? I am guilty at times of being more concerned about tomorrow than I am of being grateful for what the Lord has done today. I am guilty of forgetting that He is faithful to complete what He has begun and that He keeps all His promises. I am guilty of forgetting that He brought me this far so the rest should be easy. I am guilty of praying more in tuff times than I do when it is not so tuff. I am tired of it and I am going to change it. Lord, help me!

I have said most of this on personal note, but I am sure that many of you can see that this is just what our country is going through. Suddenly, prayer is high on the list and we want God to bless America. My prayer is that we will keep on depending on Him. My prayer is that America will bless God by acknowledging our need for Him and that we will honor Him forever. If we will, then God will do far more for us than we can ever begin to imagine, on both a personal and national level.
