ALWAYS BLESSED

Whenever you enter a home, give it your blessing. If those who live there are worthy, the blessing will stand; if they are not, the blessing will return to you.(Luke 10:5 & 6 NLT)

There is no doubt, at least in my mind, that it is God’s greatest desire to bless His people. In fact, He not only blesses His own, He blesses those outside of His family as well. I pray that no one stops reading just because we are talking about God blessing us. I know that it is still foreign to some to even consider God this way, but truly the word bears it out.

In truth, all people really do desire to be blessed. We all want things to go well for us. Even those who do not know God, like to have the blessings that he pours out. Remember, every good and perfect gift does come from God. We may misuse the gifts He gives, but still God makes all good things in the first place.

This passage in Luke’s gospel got me to thinking that the best way to be blessed is to always be blessing. After all, God did tell Abraham that He would bless him and make him a blessing. God gives us the gift of being a blessing, all we have to do is use it. I used to think I needed to be careful about who I said God bless you to. After all, what if they did not deserve it. Or what if there were things in their lives that God would not want blessed. This scripture helped me realize that blessing someone was not necessarily blessing everything they do. It was simply asking God to bless them.

Here, Jesus told them to enter a home and give it there blessing. He did not say look around and see if they thought everything was in order. He said to bless it. God will decide whether the home is worthy. If they do not want to be blessed or if God determines that the blessing should not stay, look where the blessing goes. Right back to the one who gave the blessing.

This is what is called a win-win situation. We know that God has promised that when we give it will be given unto us. So when we bless, God blesses us. When we bless someone who does not receive the blessing, we get that blessing back, as well as God’s blessing for blessing them. So we really cannot go wrong in giving blessings.

The other side of this is of course failing to bless, and worse yet to curse. If we withhold our blessing, we are disobeying God. That is a problem. If we curse, we reap what we sow. After all, if we curse and they do not deserve a curse, where will it return? Ouch!!

We should be careful then what we sow. We can feel free to sow blessings everywhere, because we are asking God to bless the people who He loves and not the actions that God may hate. No, we don’t bless just so we will get blessed, but it is nice to understand that it is to our benefit as well. It seems that the human part of us still does better when we can see how something works to our good. This is not so wrong. God told us not to forget all His benefits! This is just some food for thought, do with it what you will. As for me, I am going to focus more on blessing, and be more careful not to curse!
