ALWAYS FAITHFUL
If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. (2 Timothy 2:13 NLT)
I cannot begin tell you just how much comfort this passage of scripture gives me. It is so good to know that Jesus will do what He has promised even when I am not living up to my end of the covenant. Recently as I spoke to the Lord about the fact that I had mostly been praying on the move lately, He asked me if He was still in my thoughts. I said yes. He said do you consider Me in the decisions you make? I said yes. Then this scripture about His faithfulness came to my mind. Even though I felt that I was not doing all I should, He assured me that He could and would still do His part. At the same time He pointed out to me that I might not be doing all the stuff that I measure my faithfulness by, but I was still keeping Him first. The truth is that sometimes when I feel like busy things squeeze him out, those may be the times that I am most dependent on Him. It also seems that every time I go through these times, I feel like I am drawn closer to Him.
Knowing that He is faithful whether I am or not assures that He who began this good work in my life is faithful to complete it. As long as I am willing to be led, He is willing to lead me. As long as I don’t head down a wrong path and refuse to be instructed, He will be there to tell me which way to go. Even when I am not listening, He is busy doing what He has promised.
Those people who we think will never get a clue just need us to pray for them and then trust God to be faithful to save them. If anyone is sick, we need to believe that Jesus is faithful to heal them. If anyone is bound, we must believe that Jesus is faithful to deliver them. If anyone is hurt, we must believe that Jesus is faithful to comfort them. If anyone lacks wisdom, we must believe that Jesus is faithful to guide them, and so on.
In other words, we must believe that Jesus is faithful all the time and that He is true to His word. Verse 14 tells us to remind people about these things and to command them to quit arguing about words. Christians can sometimes get so caught up in the way we think things should go that we do not leave room for Jesus to be faithful to His promises.
When he ate with tax collectors and sinners they hated that, but he said that sick people needed Him, not healthy ones. He reminded then that they thought John was crazy, and they accused Jesus of being unrighteous because he hung out the sinners. In fact they went so far as to accuse Him of casting out demons by the power of satan. Talk about succumbing to a lie.
Well, I am determined to press on trusting in His faithfulness and reaching toward the goal of being as faithful to His word as He is. I may never attain that goal this side of heaven, but at least I will be able to say that I ran the race to win the prize. Yes, He is faithful and He is able to guide us into greater faithfulness by His example.
