APPRECIATION
Blessed be the name of the Lord now and forever. (Psalm 113:2)
Do I appreciate the Lord? Do you appreciate the Lord? Do we show Him our appreciation? God really does desire our appreciation. Not so much because He wants to be noticed or because of His ego, because it is good to give thanks to the Lord! It is good for us.
Let’s be honest, we have all been guilty of taking God for granted. Accepting that He may exist but not giving Him anywhere near the glory He should receive.
Is God a big deal to us? He should be! When you hear His name, what is your response? When you read the verse above; did your heart leap? Did you think, “Yes! Blessed be the name of the Lord?”
Ok, enough questions. I think you get the point. Lord forgive us for the times we fail to appreciate you. A simple word like this to God, shows our appreciation. It acknowledges that He is the one who can forgive sins. It keeps us thinking that He is a big deal. He is important all the time, not just when we need something.
I appreciate all that God does, but to be honest I don’t always notice. Well, I may notice but I do not necessarily thank Him. I know we are to give thanks in everything, so why don’t I do it. His word reminds us, “In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God.” Jesus said in Mark 4:5 that if we have ears to hear, we should listen and understand.
So, what do we do when we understand? Take a moment and appreciate God. To be honest, it is taking me a while to move on. I am not really sure if I should!
Truly, it is in Him that we live and move and have our being. Every breath we take is thanks to Him. We are fearfully and wonderfully made. He made the oxygen for us to breathe! I appreciate that. I breathe a lot more often than I thank Him for it. Some might say that we have other things to do, but what could be more important than appreciating God.
It is true that we have other things to do and that is ok. God knows all about that, but we can keep Him at the top of everything if we want to!
Jesus breathed on the disciples and told them, as well as us, to receive the Holy Spirit. Just like God breathed life into us in the beginning. Without Him. Without His breath, we have nothing.
Did you ever have that moment growing up, when you realized that you did not appreciate your parents as much as you could have? Did you write that letter home? Or text or email? Or make that call? Did you receive one of those messages? How did you feel?
Right now, I feel good about appreciating God. Holy Spirit, help me do it better!
