ARE YOU INDIFFERENT

What makes you think that we can escape if we are indifferent to this great salvation that was announced by the Lord Jesus Himself? (Hebrews 2:3 NLT)

Scripture declares that we are a peculiar people. That means we are different. Unfortunately, we may be guiltier of being indifferent than we are of being different. People often refer to this scripture when speaking about escaping punishment for our sins and failure to follow the Lord, but to limit it to that is to miss what will do us the most good in our present life with God. And our present life is important to God.

Have you ever asked someone if they wanted you pray and had them respond, “You can if you want to” or “I don’t care?” That is being indifferent. How are we going to escape the things that come against us, if we don’t care? How will we ever take part in all that Jesus announced if it does not matter to us?

I want to expel all indifference from my life. I am amazed as I consider this, just how many things that don’t sound so bad, actually add up to indifference. When I recently failed to take the vice I bought home with me and declared that someone else probably needed it more than I did, that sounded nice, but it amounted to indifference. I was more willing to just let it go than to ask or expect God to help.

When I am not feeling as great as I should, I want the symptoms to go. I do not want to get well over time. According to God’s word, I am healed. If I am indifferent to that fact, how will I get well? If it takes time, fine, but I am not about to be indifferent to “the suddenly miraculous.” I am no longer willing to be indifferent to the salvation that Jesus announced.

I refuse to be indifferent to the fact that every word of God is true and it is good for what ever I need it for. If I am ailing in my finances, I will no longer be indifferent about it. If I need direction or protection, I am going to expect it.

Jesus was never indifferent. He was not indifferent about the suffering of people. He was full of compassion. He fed, healed, and delivered multitudes, and He is doing it yet today. You may be His instrument for any of a number of things. You better believe He can use you right where you are. If we say that we can’t possibly be the one God wants to use, we are being indifferent to what Jesus has declared. If we do not expect to be healed, we are being indifferent. If there is any one of God’s promises that we think is not for us, we are being indifferent to the salvation Jesus announced.

Everyone born again believer would agree that we should never be indifferent to repenting and receiving Christ, and yet we will remain indifferent to growing up and experiencing the abundant life that Jesus wants us to reveal to world around us. Won’t you join me in getting the indifference out of our lives?
