ARE YOU SURE
God planned long ago to choose you and make you His holy people, which is the Spirit's work. God wanted you to obey Him and to be made clean by the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ. I pray that you will enjoy more and more of God's grace and peace. (1 Peter 1:2 ERV)
Are you sure that God spoke all things into existence? Are you sure that Jesus Christ is the Son of God? Are you sure that Jesus Christ was crucified, died, was buried, and was raised from the dead for your sins? Are you sure that He sent the Holy Spirit into the world to draw all people unto Him and to empower those who would come? Are you sure that Jesus Christ lives in you? Are you sure that the Holy Spirit lives in you to empower you and complete the good work that God has begun in you?
If your answer to all of these is an exuberant yes, praise the Lord and shout thank you Jesus for you are very fortunate. To be sure of these things is the greatest gift a person can ever have. A multitude of people have a knowledge of these things as being facts or at least have heard someone say them and do not adamantly oppose them, but to know them from the inside out is the key to life.
We are in the season of the celebration of the resurrection of our Lord, so consequently there is a great deal of church activity in many places for the purpose of reminding everyone of these facts, but those who are sure of them do not need a season to remind them.
We should live with an attitude of gratitude for the gift of understanding the things of God. Remember, Jesus said that we were blessed to understand these things. The plan was, is, and always will be, that a little understanding would lead to greater and greater hunger for more understanding and with that, greater and greater enjoyment of God’s grace and peace.
If you have known God for a while and are more excited today than you were when you first came to know Him; you are fortunate. If you are still crazy for Jesus after many years you are phenomenal! Statistics show that you are among the few and far from the norm. It takes determination and effort to remain stirred up and zealous for the things of God. It would seem like that should not be the case, but we all know it is. Peter was always reminding the people of this. Paul reminded Timothy to stir up the gifts that were in Him. It seems there is always the possibility of winding down!
Right now, I feel like the Holy Spirit is cooking something special. It is like there is a fragrance in the air increasing hunger for more of Him. This is no time to try and control our appetites. This is a time to come to the table and get all we can. If this is not what you are sensing or desiring right now, take a deep breath of the Holy Spirit and see if you can catch a hint of it like you do when someone has the grill going in the neighborhood. You know, that smell that stirs your taste buds and your thoughts of something good cooking.
Now is the time to taste and see that the Lord is good. Increase your love and desire for God. Stir up that first love. If you are not excited about Him; get excited now! It is His plan.
