AS HE IS

Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the Day of Judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. (1 John 4:17 NKJ)

I think we are all a little hesitant to step up to the plate and hit the homerun that this scripture extends to us. The New Living Translation says that we are like Him in this world. Most of the time we prefer to stick with the old, “I’m only human, just struggling through this world” attitude. Jesus never said that. He never hesitated to say that He was the Son of God. He never once said that since He was only human He was extremely limited.

No, Jesus was confident in the authority that God had given Him. He was also confident that He could pass on this same authority through His Name and the power of the Holy Spirit. It is interesting to note that this scripture says as He is, so are we in this world. He is the same yesterday today and forever. He is living and powerful and active in the earth today just like He was then. The difference is that He is all over the place now. He is not limited to one body. He inhabits every born again believer and offers the anointing of the Holy Spirit and power to everyone who asks.

So if we are like Him, we should act like it. We should allow this perfect love to work itself out in us. We should fearlessly heal the sick, cast out devils, and raise the dead at the Lord’s direction. And we should expect the Lord to direct us to do all things in His power. In every circumstance, our first action should be to be still and allow the glory and power of God to be revealed.

According to Romans 5:11 we can rejoice in this wonderful new relationship with God. We are no longer what we were. We are what He is. Why are we so reluctant to accept all that God says we are? Why do we feel like we honor God more when we deny His power in our lives? That is not being humble, it is being doubtful? Saying we have no power is just as big a lie as saying we never sinned. We just don’t know the truth.

Believe me, this Word of God stretches me. My hope is that God will cause me to snap forward into His perfect will. That I will come to the place where there is no doubt at all that all things are possible to them that believe God. In truth, failures to act on God’s word are a result of a failure to believe God’s word.

We have a new relationship with the creator of the universe. His intention is that it be new every morning. His faithfulness is great and our faithfulness to His word should be great as well. Allowing ourselves to move into this realm will help us to arise and shine every morning in anxious anticipation of what the Lord has planed.

Don’t be surprised if you find that one of His favorite plans is just to spend time with you, loving you, and building you up in your faith. Jesus always loved those times with His Father and remember, “as He is, so are we in this world.”
