AS THINGS HEAT UP
Keep me safe oh God for I have come to you for refuge. (Psalm 16:1 NLT)
I had a thought this week about global warming; Hell is heating up and getting closer to the surface. Darkness is being exposed to the light. I have always thought it was foolish to think that God made the earth without planning for all that would come. He sees, and He knows. Sin came into the world and death came with sin. It got pretty warm while Noah was building the ark and then came the big event. There was another big event in Sodom and Gomorrah. If we look around we can see that there is plenty going on to heat things up.
The Lord gave us the way to cool things down and it is guaranteed to work. If my people who are called by my name will pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then I will hear and forgive and heal the land. God is the answer to all things. He is not the answer the world looks for, but He is the one the world needs to look to.
Having said that, I want to move on to the solution for all things. God is the answer. He always has been and He always will be. David always knew where to turn, even if it took him time to do it.
He humbled himself and confessed that the Lord was His Master. He knew that every good thing came from God. The same is true for us. We all experience so much good from God. In the worst of times, God is good. We can call on Him and His presence will wipe away everything. Even if it is just a moment’s relief it is a great moment. One moment with God draws us to another and another. It is worth the effort to learn how to enjoy His moments.
We are all guilty of looking for other things to comfort us and meet our desires. We have all found that most of those things fade in one way or another. David boiled it down to the truth that those to love God are the faithful ones. He said they were his true heroes! He found pleasure in them.
He knew from experience that troubles multiply when we let other things become our gods. It is difficult sometimes to let things go, but that is the only way to relief.
We have a wonderful inheritance in the Lord. We do not need to fear. We do not need to worry. We need to trust and then pray from a position of trust. When we pray from a position of trust we can act according to the leading of the Lord. Lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your steps.
We do not direct the Lord’s steps; He directs ours. Blessed are they who put their trust in the Lord. Declare out loud, “I will be blessed for I will put my trust in the Lord. I will not fear when the terror comes near. I am a servant of God.” As David said, “No wonder my heart is glad!”
