AVOID DOUBT
My complaint is with God, not with people. I have good reason to be so impatient. (Job 21:6 NLT)
When you are driving down the road and you see a pot hole or a tire or any other thing on the road, do you try to avoid it or just drive right through it? I believe that most of us do our best to avoid it. In the same way, we should avoid doubt.
As I read this verse in Job, I thought how glad I am that I have no complaints with God. Even when things have gone far astray from what I would prefer in life, I cannot complain or blame God. He is perfect. The world is not. If we give in to doubt, we simply open the door to destruction, defeat, despair and depression, and we delay the victory that is in Jesus. As a result we display the result of failed faith and give in to delusions and believing lies about God. Ultimately, we draw others into that same frame of mind.
We can devote ourselves to doubt or devote ourselves to the truth. Remember that doubt takes us captive and the truth makes us free.
We are so fortunate to have the book of Job at our finger tips. Because we know exactly where Job’s troubles came from we can avoid thinking that God caused the trouble. Some of course say that if God does not stop the trouble then God must want us to have trouble. That is like saying that a parent who allows their child to walk down the street wants them to get hit by a car.
Getting caught up in the why of things, can only lead to doubting and more trouble than any of us want to experience. Jesus has a solution; He said, “Come unto me all you are weak and heavy laden and I will give you rest.
The quicker we trade doubt for desire for God, the quicker we experience our victory. Just as a quick move around and obstacle on the highway delivers us from damage, so it is with a quick move from doubt to devotion.
Failure to avoid an obstruction on the road can lead to long delays and even total destruction of a vehicle. Failure to avoid doubt can do the same to our faith.
Job did have some terrible setbacks. Many people would quickly agree that he was justified in complaining. The only problem is that Job did not know the source of his trouble. He believed that everything came from God, both good and evil. His friends believed the same thing and so they were sure that he must have some sin that did not show. Job was certain he had lived right and was devoted to God so he was countering the accusations of his friends and questioning the actions of God; that my friends is doubt. We must avoid doubt. It is a barricade to our walk with God and leads to nothing but trouble.
