AWARE
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise... (Ephesians 1:13 NKJ)
If you are a football fan, you would have a hard time believing that someone was not aware that today is super Sunday! The truth is that some folks just could care less and that is fine, because not everyone has to love the game or even care about it. The NFL (National Football League), however, wants everyone to be aware of just how great the game is, and for this reason they are playing games in other parts of the world in order to stir up interest. Consequently many people who were unaware previously are now becoming fans of American football.
No, it is not necessary to be aware of football, but it is necessary to be aware of God. The more we are aware of God, the more we receive of God. The truth of course, is that God is always present. The more we develop our awareness of this, the more His will, ways, and promises manifest in our lives. At conception, we have an awareness of the presence and closeness of God. We are totally protected, and surrounded by His grace. Of course we are not aware of what we are experiencing at the time. At birth, we are launched into a new world and because we are so used to the total comfort of the womb, we cry out at any awareness of change and discomfort in order to get it fixed.
This desire for the comfort that only God can provide remains throughout our lives but we may not be aware that it is God we desire. How this desire is nurtured directly affects every aspect of our lives. This is why God established that we should train up children to know that God is their source. Even then, there comes a time when each person chooses to grow in the Lord to go their own way.
We know that all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. Paul points out that there was a time when we were unaware of the promises of God. He knew first hand just how far a person could be from the truth. As a religious leader, Paul was well aware of what scripture said about the coming of Jesus into the world. The problem was that he could not see the truth in front of his face until Jesus knocked him off his mule by exposing him to the light.
There is a lot of light that we have yet to see. There is so much more to the love of God that He wants us to be aware of. We also need to be aware that there is a lot of darkness in the world that is bent on destroying us. We need to be as little children, aware of the comfort and promises of God and quick to cry out to Him at any disruption to His light.
Are we aware of just how much we need God? Are we aware of His presence? Are we aware when we have slipped out of His presence? Do we care? Are we aware of His great love and what it provides for us? Are we aware of His desire for us? We cannot just give mental assent to these questions. Jesus was aware of these things and much more. He was so aware in fact that He knew all things were possible with God. When we are aware of something we keep our eye on it. We must keep our eye on God, His presence, and His love. After all, it is so great we will never come to the end of it!
