BE AWARE OF THE THIEF
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. (John 10:10)
“I’ve got this! You take care of business. I take care of you!” How true the promises of God are; I was simply thanking God for His goodness one morning and this was His statement to me. Truly, this is His promise to us throughout His word. Our business is to do His will. We simply shine in the darkness! He blesses us so that we can bless. He is good and we simply reveal His goodness. He is faithful and we simply share how faithful He is. How simple is that?
God told Cain that he would be approved if he did what was right and warned him at the same time that sin was crouching at the door eager to control him! (Genesis 4:7) Sin of course is the devil. He is the thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy.
This is not an attempt to make us demon conscious and always looking for the thief. God intended that we be aware so that we are not easily deceived and led down a destructive path. God has given us everything we need to stand strong.
Even though we have everything we need, we are all guilty of focusing on what we don’t have and allowing that to blind us to what we do have. Cain had herds and was prosperous, but he allowed jealousy to blind him and dull his hearing. So, he did not hear God’s promise, nor did he heed God’s warning.
I wonder how often we are guilty of this same thing. We can go along with the word of God in our heart knowing what is right, and then all of a sudden something comes up and it is like we have never heard His Word. We find ourselves thinking and acting in ways that we never should.
Thankfully, Jesus made a way back for us. In Christ we are new. In Christ we do not act or think the way the thief wants us to. In Christ, even when we find ourselves in the wilderness we can turn and return and learn. Even though the Word of God is filled with direction and warnings, we can miss them and experience the very thing He warns us about.
We must be cautious not to allow the thief to deceive us into thinking that we are beyond God’s help or reach. Over and over, we must remember to cast down those imaginations that attempt to limit the power of God while pumping up the lies of the devil.
If we listen, we can hear God say, “I’ve got this!” No matter what it may be, He is able to do way more than we can hope or imagine. Remember, these are not just words in the bible; they are truth, and they are life. Let the Lord breathe life into your dead spots and weak moments. Jesus loves me, this I know. I am weak but He is strong. Most of us know that those words come from what we thought was a children’s song; oh, that we would have grasped the truth of it when we were children. Thankfully, some children do, but for me it became a favorite song at age 30.
The cross of Christ put the thief in his place once and for all. Pick it up and follow Jesus.
