BE EXALTED, O GOD

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let your glory be above all the earth.(Psalm 57:5&11)

At times I wonder if some folks really want God’s glory to cover the earth. God’s glory is found in God’s presence, and in God’s presence unrighteousness can not stand. It is a fact that God’s presence makes people uncomfortable. Unless of course they come knowing and expecting God to change them by His presence.

Many people spend time trying to dictate how God is supposed to behave. What things He can and cannot do in His own world. Some want some miracles, some do not want any, and some want God to do what ever he wants, and some think that is crazy. Some do not think of God until something bad happens, and then they want to blame Him.

Everything that Jesus did, He did to bring glory to God. The miracles were to reveal the power of God. Yet today, when we desire that God release His power and do miracles, some say we should not. Some say we can not. Some say God would not. I am certainly glad that God still does what He wants.

Truly, I think that if people do not want His miracles, they will not experience His presence. Things happen when He is present. How could they not. When ever His presence came in the Old Testament, it was awesome. When Jesus spoke the storms stopped, demons screamed, the dead came to life, and well you know many other examples. When Jesus walked out of the tomb, the guards were knocked back, the same way they were when they came to arrest Him.

David made a great declaration in this Psalm. He wanted God to be exalted above all the earth. He knew that would take care of any enemy, any doubt, any fear, any thing that was not bringing glory to God. We all need to make it the desire of our hearts, that God be exalted everywhere. First and foremost in our own lives. That is after all the life we have the most control of. We must desire that He be exalted above our own fears and doubts, above our own preferences. We need to allow God to be God.

We need to pray for Him to be exalted everywhere. We know that one day, every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. We do not know when that day will come, but we do know that Jesus said “today” was a good day to receive the truth. Every spot where He is exalted, is one more spot where He receives glory, and it is one more point of light in a dark world.

It is important that Christians do not harden there hearts to what ever God may be doing in the earth. We certainly do not want to fight against God. God is doing many miracles and many are exalting Him for it. God is being glorified and lives are being changed. He may not yet be exalted above all the earth, but every place that He is, will be blessed for it. Be sure He is exalted at your place, and in your life.
