BE ME

Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. (John 17:18)

Lord, I want to be like you. Open my eyes, Lord. Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me. The list goes on of songs we sing and prayers we pray. We wonder what the Lord has planned for us. What is His will for us? We get confused, we get frustrated, we draw near and then back off. We get happy, and we get sad, and we get mad. We do a lot of things and think a lot of things. We also walk around the things that are obvious, because they are not what we want to think about or do. So, we declare them as too deep and hard to understand.

Wondering about God is not the same as loving God. Questioning God’s motives is not loving God. Criticizing God is not loving God. Believing God; that is loving God. God is great. God is love. God is! And God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

If you tell little children to line up for treats and rewards, they rush to be first in line! They are exuberant, rambunctious, excited, and yes maybe even a little impatient as they wait. It never occurs to them that they will not get what was promised. There it is, another reason Jesus said that if we did not become as children, we would not be able to see how the kingdom of heaven works.

If we will believe, Jesus said that all things are possible. I want to stand in the all things line with no doubts or wavering. I don’t want to figure out why things happen or even if they can happen, I just want to believe God. When I was a kid, I remember singing standing on the promises of God. I sang the song, but I had no idea what it was about. I did understand about getting in line for treats and rewards, though I never put the two ideas together.

More and more I am becoming childlike, and I like it. More and more I am growing in my excitement concerning the truth of God’s word. I am hungry for God’s loving ways. So, when I asked Him what I could do for Him, He said “BE ME!” Oh man, that can stir up your flesh chewing and analyzing and scrutinizing, if you let it! Suddenly I must not have heard right! It can’t be that simple! Oh people, let’s put aside our own thinking and take God at His word.

Paul did tell the folks that he was an ambassador for God. He was God’s voice to them. Believe God. The truth will make you free.

Jesus prayed and told His father that He was sending us just like He had been sent. Think about it. This is the only way the kingdom works. God sent Jesus. Jesus sends us. We send others and so on and so on. The truth works. Take it in straight shots. Don’t water it down. We called to take it in and pour it out for others. Not reject it and put it aside.

Jesus response to my question is obviously what He taught and what His word teaches. Paul said that he wanted to be found in Christ. Yes, Jesus wants us to represent Him, even more, He was us to BE HIM! It really is the naturally supernatural thing to do. If we don’t quench the Spirit of God, He will flow through us. And yes, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us!
