BE SURE OF THIS
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:20 NLT)
Follow me. Come. Now go. Dwell in me. I will lead you. I will strengthen you. I will give you wisdom. Wait, rest, come away, I am with you always, and I will never leave or forsake you!
These are just a few of the commands and promises that Jesus spoke. Which one do you like best? At any given time, I might prefer the one that seems specific to my current state, but I think the best is that He will never leave or forsake me. After all, if, and He is, present, then all the promises are present for activation.
Yes, God is always running in the background! Unlike the apps that drain our batteries, God is always building us up. He is always waiting to do what He has promised.
When Jesus spoke to the disciples, He told them to go to the lost house of Israel first! As He went, everyone who caught what He said and did, and responded with faith; activated what He promised.
Each time someone did that, Jesus pointed out what a big deal that was. When the centurion recognized that things responded to the words Jesus spoke just like his soldiers responded to him; Jesus was ecstatic. It was a wow declaration that Jesus made over his faith.
I really want to make wow moments for Jesus! I don’t want to leave God running in the background, I want Him to be the always open application of my life.
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; be glorified. Are you familiar with the old chorus that says, “Nothing is too difficult for Thee.” It reminds us that God made the heavens and earth by His great power and His outstretched arm. What could be difficult after that? Sadly, sometimes we are difficult!
We forget the promises. We know they are there, but we give up when we do not see what we want to see. Our eyes that start out on God, drop down and look at the things that are beneath Him.
It is hunting season around here. Ask any hunter what happens when you don’t keep your eyes on your target. Any little deviation leads to a missed target. When I was a kid, my dad would laugh and remind me not to flock shoot. That meant that instead of picking out a target you shot at all of them and hit none of them. It occurs to me that I am guilty of flock shooting when it comes to prayer.
Of course, God can hit everything. He knows everything. Still, it is beneficial to be specific so we can see and appreciate what He is doing. Paul said that he always wanted to keep his eye on the prize of the high calling of God. When our eyes are on Him, we are reminded to consider His plans for those who love Him.
He said to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Please be sure this is on your list. It is what God wants us to do and one that holds great promise for those who will pray. Thank you, Lord, that you are with us and for us, always. The blessing of the Lord be upon you as you pray.
