BE THANKFUL
And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are all called to live in peace. And always be thankful. (Colossians 3:15 NLT)
I am sure you have heard the phrase, attitude of gratitude, but have you given it much thought lately? It seems to me that whether we have a lot or little, we can still be so caught up in complaining that we forget to be thankful. If a person has a lot, they can just want a lot more. They can spend more time looking at what they still want to acquire and forget to be thankful for what they already have. A person without much can be so discouraged and bitter about having little that they are not grateful for what they do receive. I have seen people who seem to think they should have what everyone else does without bothering to put out any effort. Gratitude is one the greatest offerings we can make to God.
It is one thing for people without Christ to act this way, but it is really inexcusable for people who do have Christ to be this way. For the last few days, the Lord has kept repeating the fraise, “Be thankful.” We do have much to be thankful for. No matter what our current status may be, if we have Christ we have the world at our disposal. In Christ we have everything that is necessary to move from where we are to where we want to be, but we will never advance if we are not thankful where we are.
Often times you will hear people who are very ill tell people that they should be thankful for their health. God said to me that one sign of being thankful for health is to take care of it. If we do not take care of ourselves, we are showing that our health is really not all that important. Health is a gift from God, so we should show our gratitude by taking care of our bodies.
We should be thankful for our finances. Whether we have much or little, we should be thankful for them and use them properly. If we want to increase, we need to be sure to give to God what belongs to Him do the things He asks us to do. Then we can trust Him to increase us as He has promised. If we waste our finances and then say we cannot afford to give to the Kingdom of God we show that we are not grateful for what we do have and keeping the Lord from granting us increase.
We can be thankful for all the promises of God. If we believe them, we will be thankful for them and put our trust in them. I recently heard a man say that when we meditate on the promise of God it brings us revelation. When we have the revelation, it produces participation. Our participation in the promises produces the manifestation of those promises. This is why Jesus challenges us to be doers of the word and not just hearers. He intends for us to put the word of God to work. If He did not, He certainly would not tell us to be thankful. No one would expect you to be thankful for nothing and especially not God. Thank you Lord for opening our eyes to see where we have failed to be thankful. Please forgive us and lead us now to the place you want us to be.
