BE VERY GLAD

Be happy about it. Be very glad because you have a great reward waiting for you...(Mat. 5:12)

Are you enjoying yourself? Are you enjoying the Lord? Jesus was teaching the people in this passage of scripture about how to handle everything; even insults and persecution. His solution; be happy and very glad. Wow! What kind of advice is that?

Have you ever gone somewhere and heard someone say enjoy your meal, the show, your stay, or something to that affect? When you enter the place you are entitled to whatever they offer and they want you to enjoy yourself so you will come back again.

For instance, I like those restaurants that have chips and salsa waiting when you sit down. When I go there I expect to eat my share! If I go to a motel and there is a pool, exercise room, and hot tub, I expect to be able to use it all. If I go to a buffet I expect to have it all available to me. I am certain you feel the same way. In every instance, the goal of those in the place is for us to enjoy ourselves, come back, and tell our friends about the place.

I am sure some of you are already seeing what Jesus was trying to teach the people and of course trying to teach us. In the first ten verses of Matthew chapter 5, Jesus spoke of great blessings that belong to those who are in the kingdom of God. With that in mind it made sense to tell the people to be happy and glad in every situation. Not happy with what was going on, but happy and very glad with God and His promises.

Just yesterday when riding the motor cycle and talking with the Lord, He said two words that rush over me every time I think of them. “Enjoy Me.” I had just spent about 5 minutes adjusting to the ride and thanking God for it and then thinking many random thoughts when I regrouped and said to the Lord that I ride for the conversation and fellowship with Him and that since He is the smarter of the two of us it would be good if he did most of the talking and then He said those two words.

I honestly cannot begin to tell you all that He said or all of the things that flooded my thinking at that point, but the one thing that keeps recurring is to always enjoy Him. He is always enjoyable. If we do not see God as enjoyable, we really do not see God.

There was a song from way back with one line that said, “Tell him he’s the one.” It then continued to say, “But it’s easier…easier said than done.” I realize that the first thought about enjoying God no matter what the circumstance, can bring resistance until we understand what it means. It means enjoy God! In other words step aside and enjoy God. Step out of whatever is disrupting the joy of the Lord and enjoy God. It only takes a moment to be refreshed and ready to continue on. Think about how enjoying God can change your life!
