BECAUSE I SAID SO
Jesus asked, "Do you finally believe?" (John 16:31 NLT)
When Jesus was explaining that things were going to be different and that they should expect different results, it must have been obvious that they were not really catching what He was saying. Even after they declared that they understood, Jesus kindly pointed out that they really did not get it; not yet anyway. In fact He warned them that they were about to blow it big time, but they would make it if they just stuck with Him.
After this, Jesus went and did some big time praying for them and all that would believe later to assure that things would go the way He said. That is why things often boil down to the fact that they will be the way God says, simply because He says so. It makes no difference whether we know exactly how or why things work, the fact that He says so is reason enough.
Today I am wearing an Army shirt that my son gave me. It reminds me that I am in the Lord’s ARMY. In the Army, soldiers are required to follow orders. They dare not disobey a direct order from a superior. If a soldier does disobey a direct order the consequences will follow. In some cases, the punishment is spelled out in the hand book, in other cases the punishment is left to the imagination of the instructor! In addition to direct orders, there is a book of regulations covering everything from how you wear what you wear and how you put things on what you wear, to how to stand, sit, and even wait. I am sure that there have been times when the most obscure rule in the book was used to make a point. I remember being in training when our Staff Sergeant pointed out a rule that no one had ever heard of and then pointed out what would happen if anyone chose to disregard that rule! And that was the way it was, because he said so.
By now you probably see where I am headed with this. You see, I would never even consider disobeying a direct order from God. I have done some things that I had no clue how or even why I should do them, but because I was certain He said it, I did it! However, I must admit that there things He has written that I am guilty of excusing myself from. You know the one’s like preferring others, loving the right way, and etc. Understand, I don’t look at the regulation and intentionally ignore it. It is more like I have trusted the Holy Spirit to keep me on track and He is great at His job, but if He did not reprimand me on the spot, it just did not come to my mind!
However, the time comes when we need to advance and that advancement requires greater responsibility. If we want greater results, we need to understand that it will require a deeper walk. Change me Lord!
