BECAUSE OF LOVE
"Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name." (Psalm 91:14 NKJ
I love it when God opens my eyes in a new way to very familiar scriptures. I always wonder how I could have missed it, and yet I know that God has reasons for His perfect timing. This time He had something to show me in the 91st psalm. I saw it as one who heard they could dwell in the secret of the Most High, so they decided to declare that they would trust in God.
In response to that that, the Holy Spirit or an angel or both begin to tell the rest of the story of how God will deliver, cover, protect, defend, remove all reason for fear, and in essence take care of everything for him for such a declaration.
Finally in verse 14, I had this picture of God no longer containing His enthusiasm and standing up and saying, “Yes, because he has set his love upon Me I will deliver him and set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; and I will honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation.” Can you picture God standing up and saying this about you? You should. This is just exactly how God feels about your love for Him. Oh how God loves it when we become convinced that He cannot fail. He is perfect. He has a perfect record. He cannot be defeated. He is the very picture of perfection.
Today is Super Bowl Sunday. It seems the world knows about it. Some live for it, others can take it or leave it. Personally, I stand somewhere in between those attitudes. I enjoy football, but no longer live and breathe it. I do see many illustrations in it however, and that part I do love.
As we watch this game, there are certain people who everyone expects to do something great. These are the ones that coaches and fans alike hang their hats on so to speak. People expect a quarterback to do something heroic when it seems impossible. Or they expect a defensive player to make the big hit or intercept the pass.
There are times of course when that just does not happen. There are times when people who are hardly known end up doing the big thing. There are times when a coach sticks with a great player and he just never does the great thing. There are other times when the great player does everything wrong until the very end and then manages to pull it out. There are other times when the great player goes out of the game and no one will ever know if he would have pulled it out or not.
There are a lot of variables that can take place in a Super Bowl Game, and in the end it won’t really make that much difference. Oh, it will give bragging rights to some, and misery to others for a time, but the real things of life will go on.
I am so glad that there are no variables when it comes to God’s performance. He is steady and He never fails. The key for us is to never take the ball out of His hands. We must never doubt that He will make the perfect block. We can be sure that He will intercept the devils plans and keep him from knocking us out of the game. God never has a bad game, and He is determined to see us walk in victory. Enjoy the game.
