BECAUSE WE CAN

Depend on the Lord. Trust in Him, and He will help you. (Psalm 37:5 ERV)

The promises of God are yes and amen. Trust in the Lord. Believe God. Call upon the Lord. Draw near to God. Seek the Lord. Praise the Lord. The List goes on and on and on as we read the Bible and the ultimate guarantee for all of this the fact that the Lord cannot lie, fail, or be defeated. And because we can believe God, we can expect God to do what He says.

Many years ago, the Lord placed the thought in my heart, “You can but you don’t have to!” This is the way it is with all the things of God, but because we can, if we will, we will find that ultimately we must! Why, because closeness to God compels us, for He is indeed the air we breathe and our daily bread. He is all we could ever need or want.

The very best thing we can do in life is make God our habit and our addiction because in Him we actually find life. This is of course foolishness to some, but if we will do it, we will become walking confirmations of the goodness God. If this were not true, there would not be so many temptations to keep us from doing it.

There is always another way that draws us away from the way that God desires. There is always another thought floating into our minds. However, because we can bring those thoughts into captivity, we can cast them down and allow the promise of God to take its rightful place at the top of the list. Yes we can do this because God says so.

Just as it was in my dream, as I entered the place that God was taking me, the first thing I encountered was the distraction of the dark tunnel. Even though I went past it to the place that God had in mind, it remained an attraction. I even came to the conclusion that it was going prove very important. I now believe it was only important for the fact that it needed to be left as a reminder of how temptation can keep us from the real promise of God.

No doubt there will be dark places, and hard places to understand, but getting lost in them is not the answer. Recognizing them and turning to the Lord is the way through the darkness. Allowing ourselves to be consumed by His glorious light on things is the way to overcome.

There is so much in the place that God has provided us, that if we will stay with Him we will be more than satisfied in every circumstance. We can lay awake and worry, or we can pray. We can waste a lot of effort, or we can put effort into prayer. We can doubt, or we can trust. We can rebel or we can submit to God. We can demand our own way or we can follow His way.

Yes, we can, but we do not have to. We can struggle until we are worn out and just want to give up, but even then, we can turn to the Lord and He will rescue us. We can!
