Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14 NKJ)
It just sounds to simple to think that all we need to do is believe God. I mean how could we not? After all, He is God. Of course there are those who do not believe that God is who He says He is or that there is God at all. There are also those of us who do believe and often times act like we don’t! Does that ever happen to you?
The fact that God told us that Jesus, (Immanuel) would be born of a Virgin long before it ever happened was a major miracle, but still some will not believe. Christmas is coming. Will you believe? Will we all believe that God is who He says He is and that He will do what He says he will do?
In verse 9 God says, “If you will not believe, you will not be established.” It stands to reason then that if we will believe we will be established. If we want to see the glory of God then we are going to need to trust Him. In this particular instance Jerusalem was on the verge of being wiped out, but God sent Isaiah to tell the king not to worry because He was going to take care of everything. God even went so far as to offer to prove His power to the king, but the king would not ask for a sign. I wonder why, don’t you?
Do you hesitate to ask God for miracles? Why? I think we all have a tendency to be careful about asking for too big of things because deep down we are afraid we will be disappointed and we don’t want to be disappointed with God. Now isn’t that crazy? Do we fear that God is not able to do all that He says? Or is it just that we doubt He will do it for us? Are we afraid He will say no?
To be honest, I think it is all of the above and then some others that you can think of from personal experience. Because of this, we all limit God. He has such great plans and we see only a portion of them because we will not believe.
The sign that God told them about was the sign of the birth of Immanuel (God with us.) He was the fulfillment of all promises. He was the guarantee of the better covenant. He was the wonderful counselor, prince of peace, and everlasting father. He was and is and is coming again. Talk about a wonderful sign. And still many will not believe.
I believe that if we will believe, then God will establish some things in our lives that will have an effect on the lives of others and they in turn will believe. This is not the only season for believing, but it is a great season of opportunity. If we will believe, then we will be established. If we will pray believing, our prayers will be answered. Only believe, only believe, all things are possible. Only believe.
