BELIEVE GOD

He was sitting and listening to Paul speak. Paul looked straight at him and saw that man believed God could heal him. (Acts 14:9 ERV)

Recently I heard someone say something to effect that we keep trying to be like Jesus, when we should instead believe like Jesus! That struck me as a great statement, but I then began to consider how to do that. I realized that Jesus believe God. Believing God is totally different that believing in God’s existence or even in what God can or could do. Jesus believed God.

Remember Abraham, He believed God and it was accounted to him as righteousness. Jesus said before Abraham was, I Am. God said you are my son and I am pleased with you. Jesus believed this! He says the same to you. Do you believe God? It is amazing what believing God will do for our confidence.

Jesus believed everyone would be healed. He believed the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him. He believed it so completely that He read from the book and then told the folks that He was the fulfillment of that word. He believed multitudes would be fed when he prayed over a little food. He believed Lazarus would rise from the dead. Ultimately He believed so strongly that God would raise Him from the dead that He went to the cross. Believing like Jesus is believing God!

As I read this passage of scripture, the fact that the man believed God was the first thing that struck me. Now most people who believe in God believe that God could heal, deliver, protect, and provide for them, but believing He will is oftentimes a stretch. I believe that the more we believe God the easier it is to receive from God.

Paul looked at the man and saw that He believed God could heal him. How did he see this? Well, I think when he looked, God said so and Paul believe Him. Because Paul believed God, He shouted to the man to get up and the man who believed God could then believed God would, and He got up.

Man lives by every word that proceeds from God. Areas where we do not believe God are areas that still need to be brought to life in our lives. As I have sought God concerning this, I realize that the areas of faith that are natural and simple to me are in fact the areas in which I simply believe God. This means that the other areas are places where I do not yet believe Him. I hate to even say such a thing! But then, saying it opens my eyes and heart to change it. Lord, show me every area where I do not believe you.

The hardest things become simple when we believe Him. Think about it. Do you believe God? What circumstance would change for you if you simply believe Him? Enjoy the change! I am already beginning to see how it has worked as well as areas where I have not worked it. It excites me to see just how simple it really is. The simplicity that is Christ! Remember Paul spoke of his concern that we would miss that?
