BELIEVE ME

"You are My witnesses," says the Lord, "and My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, nor shall there be after Me." (Isaiah 43:10 NKJV)

“I don’t believe you.” Has anyone ever said that to you? Have you ever said that to anyone? Of course you have. We have all said things like, “I never would have believed it if I hadn’t seen with my eyes; and I still don’t believe it.” From the beginning of time, God has been busy proving Himself and providing us with evidence, so that we can believe Him. He would not have had to do that. After all, He is the one and only true God and He does not need to prove Himself, but He desires our love and trust so much that He was willing to prove Himself to us.

He has given us the opportunity to know Him and believe Him. He says that He does not lie, so we most certainly should be able to believe Him! The CEV Bible says that God has chosen us so that we can know and trust Him. Can we really believe if we will not trust? Have you ever heard the illustration concerning the man who pushed a wheel barrow on a rope over the Niagra Falls and then asked a boy standing there if he believed he could do it again, and when the boy said yes he asked him to get in the wheel barrow? There is definitely an element of trust involved in believing in something.

There are people who believe that planes can fly but do not trust that they are safe for them to fly in. God desires that we believe Him totally and completely. That total belief leads to total trust.

Remember when Paul was on the ship in the storm. Even though he had warned them not to go on the trip because he believed they would suffer loss of both ship and lives, when the storm came he did not sit around and say, “I told you so!” No, he went and prayed and an angel of the Lord assured him that they would all survive. Based on that, he told them to cut the life boats loose and just trust what God said. His exact words were, “I believe God.” We might say that he was telling them that he trusted God more in a storm than he trusted a life boat! As a result, everyone survived and a whole island of people had the opportunity to know and believe God.

Our lives give people the opportunity to know and believe God, if we know and believe God. How can we say that we know God if we are not willing to believe Him? Think of Elijah when he was mocking the prophets of Baal, suggesting that maybe he was asleep or on vacation. The enemy looks for opportunities to tell us that God must not mean what He says, and we in turn have the opportunity to stand strong declaring that we believe God.

Jesus said that life was about every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Is what He says our source? It can be if we so choose. We were chosen so that we could know Him well enough to believe Him. He just keeps getting better.
