BETTER THAN LIFE
Because your loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. (Psalm 63:3 NKJ)
Every year around Christmas time they show reruns of the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life.” The movie is about a guy who comes to the point of hating his life and then with the help of an ‘interesting’ angel realizes he has a wonderful life after all. If you asked a 100 people about life you would probably get 100 answers. Some may love their life, and some may hate it, and some may say, “It is what it is.” Some may be full of hope and some may be hopeless, but still for the most part, the majority of people want to live!
So what could be better than life? Maybe another or better question might be what could make life better? I think that even those who are living what people consider to be the good life are interested in making life better. In fact often times they may be the one’s who want to know most, because on the outside everything looks good, but the reality is that they just are not experiencing a life of satisfaction.
Even though it is hard for people to comprehend until they have actually experienced it, this verse holds the key to “Life.” This truth is what makes every life better. This truth is what restores hope to the hopeless. This truth is what makes sense in the midst of senselessness. God’s love just plain makes things better. Growing in this truth is a process. It is part of the good fight of faith. Entering into His love is the door to the Kingdom of God. It is by holding on to that love that we experience the life that is better than we ever hoped or imagined.
This truth also happens to be the one that the enemy wants to keep us from experiencing, and once we have experienced it, he is continually attempting to undermine it and cause us to question God’s love for us. Basically that is what the serpent was doing when he tempted Eve. He was implying that if God really loved them He would not withhold anything from them. Now He tells people that if God really loved them they would not have any problems or they would have all the answers or any of a number of things to keep them from resting in God’s love.
God’s love does not guarantee that we will never have another problem. His love guarantees that we have access to the solution to every problem. His love guarantees that He is for us and that no weapon formed against us can overcome us. His plan is for us to overcome and to conquer. The problems my look large, but God is larger.
God stands with arms wide open beckoning for all to enter into this love. This love is also the door to the Kingdom of God. All over the nation young people are graduating from one level of school and life to another, I pray for them that they would know this truth that will make their lives better. We are blessed that we can all graduate daily deeper into this love. Congratulations!
