BETTER THINGS FOR YOU

Dear friends, even though we are talking this way, we really don't believe it applies to you. We are confident that you are meant for better things, things that come with salvation. (Hebrews 6:10 NLT)

It was never God’s intention that we live looking over our shoulders like our past might catch up to us at any moment. At the same time, it is important that we remember what the Lord has done for us and be thankful. In Hebrews we are reminded to press on and encouraged to look for the better things that come with salvation.
With no understanding of the better things, it is very difficult to press ahead. What would we be pressing forward to? Of course heaven someday is a pretty great future, but just waiting for heaven has shipwrecked many. There are storms in this life that we need to weather, and there has to be something that gives us confidence to stand.
We do have that something. We have Christ who is the author of our salvation. We know that He is the doorway to heaven, but do we understand that he is the gateway to the Kingdom of God here and now?
When you think of Christ, do you imaging better things now? Do you expect suddenlies? My spell check does not recognize that word, but my faith does. If there are no better things, what can we really expect?
I have known people that cannot even really enjoy when things are going well because they are expecting something bad to happen soon. God is good and He does only good. He thinks good things when He thinks of us. So when we think of God, we should think “better things.”
Jesus said that He was anointed to bring good news. We are called to receive that good news and pass it on. Jesus spoke of the treasures that are out there for us to find. He prayed that we would find them. He prayed that we would be encouraged and would be one with Him and the Father. He prayed that we would be protected and provided for. He revealed how faith in the good news produced amazing results. This is a short example of an ever expanding list of things that the author of Hebrews was referring to when he said we were meant for the better things that come with salvation.
When I say it is an ever expanding list, I mean that He is doing things for you that He has not done the exact same way for others and you have that to share. He has spoken things to you for you that He has not yet spoken to others. It excites me just to type this in to the computer. Oh what joy there is in contemplating the better things of God! No wonder the enemy fights to keep us from expecting better things. Oh, thank God for rescuing you. Never forget your freedom. Now, run looking forward to better things not over your shoulder; old things have passed away.
