BEYOND ABOVE

Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. (1 Corinthians 2:9NKJ)

Somewhere over the rainbow, dream the impossible dream, I can only imagine, and the list goes on of the song lines or quotes that we might use at different times in our lives. We do in fact, want to get beyond things.

We have financial trials, health trials, friend trials, election trials, and there is just a giant list that we each can come up with. We also have a list of things that are in the past to draw from. There are things that we have come through. There are struggles that we can use to remind us that we will get past it because we did it before.

There also things that did not turn out the way we wanted, and sometimes those things hang over us. They rest there above us and attack when we least expect it. They are things that exalt themselves against our hope and our trust in God.

Just when we are about to enter His peace, these things come and ask us where was God when we needed Him? What makes us think this time will be any different? When Jesus hung on the cross, they mocked Him asking, “Where is your God now?”

Fortunately, Jesus looked beyond above. He looked to God, who is above all things far beyond what we can hope or imagine. We get trapped when we want to see what no eye has seen. We are not intended to see, only to trust. Trust takes us beyond above. If not, we can get caught in the trap of getting above and finding a little relief only to get sucked right back down.

Recently, as I lay listening to my mother breathe so fast that I could not keep up; it was wearing me out! Then there would be a pause and I hoped maybe it was the end, but when I would say “Momma”, it would start again. This went on for a bit, until she left to be with Jesus. Once that occurred, it was good to be above the physical, but only God is able to get us beyond the above.

If I hang out at just above, every down draft will have the potential to suck me under. I like the above, but beyond above is where I want to dwell. I don’t mean beyond memories or joys of the past, I simply mean a place where I can enjoy the past without getting drug through the mud.

We all have things that can suffocate us if we don’t put them in the Lord’s hands. He takes them beyond above where they cannot torment us. He moves them to our trophy room where they serve only to remind us of His faithfulness. Don’t let the enemy trap you into thinking you cannot get beyond above or that there is something wrong with being there. Shout Glory to God! Do you feel the updraft?
