BEYOND BELIEF
The father instantly cried out, "I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!" (Mark 9:24 NLT)
It comforts me to know that there is a place beyond my ability to believe. Oh how I want to get to the place where unbelief is behind me, but knowing that God is able to do more than I can believe is my comfort until that day arrives.
Jesus said that all things are possible if we can believe. I am determined to trust God beyond what I can believe. This man believed Jesus could do what he wanted and yet he did not. My mom will often say things and then add “Like you can’t believe.” It is one of those old sayings that rarely makes sense. Like you are watching it rain but it is raining like you can’t believe!
I want to grow in the Lord. It seems that growing may just revolve around knowing that we have not arrived and looking forward to the next thing God will show us.
Beyond belief may be that place when we are standing when we have done everything to stand. We are confident in God but a little shaky in our own strength. If we believe that God is able and that the armor of God is what God says it is, then we may not see, understand, or even have a lot of faith; but we do have hope in Christ.
Our faith is not in our faith. Our faith is in God who does what He says He will do. Notice, that Jesus did heal the boy even though his father acknowledged his wavering on the possibility.
Beyond belief is also found in the peace that passes understanding. We may not understand. We may be confused. We may be a lot of things; but if we are determined to set our hearts and minds on Christ, it truly can be well with our soul. Our minds may be racing along with our hearts and we may be shaking in our boots, but God is good. Glory to His name!
There is joy in knowing God is beyond our ability to believe and He challenges us to come up to the place of living there. Then we won’t give up or give in, we will just start to praise again.
Praise and prayer open the door to what was beyond our belief and in that place we see another door that we can move toward.
What is it right now that is beyond belief for you? It may not be obvious to you right now if there is anything. We just need to know that when whatever it is shows up; God will be there to help our unbelief.
With that in our hearts and minds, we can be at peace with God in all things. When we say, “help me Lord;” We know He hears and answers. You oh Lord are our help and hope. We believe it Lord. Help our unbelief!
