BEYOND WHAT WE KNOW

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)

There is no fear in love. That is what God says. This is because His love which is perfect wipes it out. So we are in the midst of a time of fear pedaling. Fear is pumping as fast as it can in a great effort to keep people confused and yes, fearful.

The headline in one corner is that it will never end and this is the new normal. More stable minds suggest fighting the good fight. We will overcome and it will be better than we imagine. In my mind the stable minds are closest to what the Lord has promised.

When we know God and believe Him and trust Him we know that there is much we do not know. God has assured us that we know more than we think. We have strength beyond what we think. We have power beyond what we think. We can love beyond what we can think.

Trust in God takes us beyond what we can think or imagine. In fact it sets us free from the captivity of limited thinking and allows us to travel by faith.

Recently I heard someone talking about the things we have faith in and as I was listening, the word confidence came to my mind over and over. You see, we can have confidence in many things, but our faith must be in God alone. If we put our faith in anything or anyone else, when things fall apart we have a tendency to turn on God. God does not fail. All of these other things will perish but the word of God goes on forever.

How many times have you seen a person putting all their faith being healed or in someone close to them being healed and the healing does not go the way they wanted. Since the faith was in the healing and not in the God who does it, it appears that God failed. Or it appears that we just did not do it right. The appearances can be a long list that in too many cases has ended in the falling away from God.

God’s word tells us above all things to have faith in God. Paul said I believe God. On the other hand, we can be confident that God will complete the good work He has begun. We can have confidence in everything God says. Our faith must remain in the author and finisher of our faith.

Jesus is coming again, but no one knows when. On the other hand, He is new every morning. We should just look forward to every day with Jesus. He is enough.

It came to mind that as Jesus hung on the cross, one of the men next to Him asked Jesus to remember him. Jesus told him that he would be with Him in Paradise. You know, Jesus could have healed and released that man but He didn’t. I am sure that was the best day of that thief’s life. Remember, you know beyond what you know. God is greater. There is still more to Jesus!
