BLESSED OR CURSED
So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham. (Galatians 3:9 NKJ)
Personally, I felt pretty blessed before I knew anything about being blessed, when I first came to know Jesus Christ. Once early in my walk with the Lord, I had someone ask me if I had any regrets about my new found faith. It seemed like a very strange question then and to be honest it still just makes me smile and shake my head. How could I regret finding life? It would be like asking someone who came up out of the water if they have any regrets about getting to breathe! I realize that the person who asked was referring to the previous life I had that was pretty much the opposite direction of what I was now traveling, but he could not see how much brighter life is with God.
What really puzzles me is the confusion that exists in the minds of Christians concerning the blessing that God has promised to all who love Him. We are either blessed or cursed. According to what God says, we are blessed! But according to what some say we should not enjoy or expect blessings all the time.
Obviously, if we are practicing more on the works of the flesh than on walking in the fruit of the Spirit we should not expect the blessing of the Lord to be upon us, but if we are loving God and practicing His word we really should expect the blessing of the Lord. I just cannot figure out why there is such an aversion to the idea among Christians.
It is no wonder that the folks who do not know God cannot figure out what we see in Him when we are confused about what He has to offer. If we could just get it clear in our own lives, thoughts and actions, I believe we could clear it up for others who are searching for life.
Imagine what it is like for a person who experiences the joy of the Lord and is walking in His wonderful blessings, to suddenly be informed not to expect the joy to last and not to get carried away with it. Then on top of that to have someone explain to them that anyone who says that God is out to bless them is lying to them. Unless they are strong in their faith and determined to know the truth for themselves, they will begin down that long road of hanging on hoping to get out of this miserable world and off to heaven.
Well of course, the joy disappears along with enthusiasm and desire, and before long, if the lie is not rejected, it becomes their truth and liberty is lost. If someone does not want to be blessed, I guess that is ok, but dragging others down a miserable road is just not nice.
There is a world ripe for the harvest and they are looking for people who have found something good in life. Jesus is the Life. He is the Way and the Truth. He says that all who are weary should come for rest, not to be burdened down even more. We are blessed and we should walk in that blessing and draw the world to the Blesser!
