BREAKTHROUGH IS COMING

Teach me your way Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness. Psalm 86:11 NIV)

In the midst of time with the Lord, He said, “Breakthrough is coming!” To be honest, I was not exactly sure what He was referring to! Of course, God always knows what He is talking about, so I took Him at His word. He talked about prayer and how it is always working; I had no doubt about that! So, there I was with a wonderful promise and no idea what exactly He might have in mind. Then it occurred to me that I did not need to know specifics; I simply needed to rejoice at the prospect of the breakthrough.

I have heard people who are what I consider to be prayer warriors speak of breakthrough and that is usually a reference to revival or really big things. I have read of the old revivals and how a few ladies in church prayed in great moves of God. I have read of men of God coming into towns and towns being transformed. I have imagined being a part of such things. I have never doubted the possibility of those things even for a moment. So that breakthrough would be amazing. Keep praying is my thought. Or maybe I need to pray more for that!

I, however, am not one to limit God to any one thing. I am more prone to take His promise for all sizes of things for all people. What if we lived and prayed like we knew a breakthrough was coming? What if we would not worry and just pray and expect the presence of God to respond? Now there is a comforting idea.

When I played football, there was always that hope to break through the line and find a path to the endzone. No matter what breakthrough we may be looking for, effort is involved! Once you broke through, you could not just quit! No. You wanted to break out and break away.

Many times, we go through life waiting for a break and wondering why our break does not come. Well, if we are going to break through it will take an effort. We probably will have to do something!

Jesus made the effort and provided a way for us to be saved. We still need to make the effort of receiving salvation. It doesn’t just wander over us. We have to ask! If you have never asked, do it today!

So yes, breakthroughs require effort. When they tunnel through a mountain, they cannot quit after going halfway. They keep going. It may get hard and there may be setbacks, but they press until they break through to the other side. Many people benefit from all the effort. I am reminded of one of the original rap songs, Big John! John was a big man, and he gave a mighty shove and trapped miners scrambled to the light up above. In the same way, Jesus shoved the devil out of our way, and we can scramble to the Light of the World. That is the greatest breakthrough of all.

We all have need for breakthroughs in our lives. Jesus promised it is coming. He is our source of breaking through and breaking free. He is greater than addictions, fear, anger, bitterness, hopelessness, loneliness, helplessness, lack, diseases, or regrets. He is our breakthrough!
