BUILD AN ALTAR

Build my altar wherever I cause my name to be remembered, and I will come to you and bless you. (Exodus 20:24 NLT)

Do you ever imagine how wonderful heaven might be? I try, but I really cannot even start. I can feel it sort of but I really cannot envision it. There was a song from the past that said “Any way you want it, that’s the way it will be.” It was not a worship song, but that may be what heaven is like. I think in heaven we will simply want God. Simply wanting God is the answer to all things here and now as well.
The more we love God, the more we realize that in good times or bad times, happy or sad times, or weak or strong times; all of these times are times to remember the name of the Lord. Another old song had a line that said, “I’m in heaven, I get carried away. I dream of him and me and how it’s gonna be…together we will see how lovely heaven can be. The perfect and full moments in our lives when it just could not be any better; those are just small glimpses of heaven.
Do you ever have those restless nights of tossing and turning and adjusting your pillow and thinking of nothing that brings you peace? That is a time when we can remember the name of God and build and altar. Is everything falling apart and there seems to be no hope or help. It is time to remember the Lord and build an altar. In every situation, if we will build an altar and think on the Lord, we will set ourselves in a place to look for Him. Just look. He is on His way to bless you.
There is nothing about us that can earn a single thing from the Lord. However, in Christ, we have in us everything that will cause all things to flow to us from God. That is why I felt led to say that we need to do the easy thing. Jesus was always getting away to be with God. That was the most important lesson He left us with. All of the healing, deliverance, forgiveness, and teaching flowed out of Him as a result of His altar building.
Many times, we get caught in the spot of wondering what in the world we can do for God. We condemn ourselves or someone else does for not doing enough. Even what we do, we are convinced that we don’t do it right enough. What a great place to build an altar. God will come quickly to assure us that seeking Him and loving Him will cause a river to flow out of us. Peace will come and joy will come. There is not greater blessing than that.
Take a moment to think upon the Lord. Let everything else move out of sight and mind. Now look for Him. Here He comes to bless you.
