BUILD AND GIVE
And now I entrust you to God and the word of His grace--His message that is able to build you up and give you an inheritance with all those He has set apart for Himself. (Acts 20:32 NLT)
The major thought that has driven me in my walk if faith is that there is more to Jesus. From the first day I have been seeking for more. I knew that if the little I knew could so radically change my life there had to more to come. Now that I know more, I realize that it is less than nothing compared to all there is in Him. Sometimes I have to say it leaves me a bit overwhelmed. It is sort of like taking a pair of scissors out to mow the yard, you wonder if any progress is really being made. Still there is that knowing that there are treasures ahead if I will just keep going.
I think this was the same thing that went on with Paul. He just had to keep going. He had to keep telling people the good news. Whenever the disciples told about Jesus and the kingdom of God they always said it was good news. They knew God was a good God. When Paul talked of entering the kingdom through tribulations he was not intending that they focus on the problems. He was telling them they must keep going. If they would not be distracted they could not be defeated. The key was to just keep going. Why keep going? There was always more of Jesus waiting for them. There were more miracles, more believers, more love, more power and more of Him for their lives.
Paul talked about the message as being able to build them up. Have you ever noticed how God’s word can truly refresh you? Have you noticed how just talking about how good He is and the good plans He has for you can turn your day around. Truly it is a miraculous thing how those words can transform us and renew our minds. It is most certainly the living word of God. Recently God told me that I was going to have to trust more than I ever have in my life. At first it took me back a bit. I wondered what in the world is coming that God would tell me that. I am sorry to say that my first thought was that it must be something bad. Now isn’t that silly? Why couldn’t it be something really good? Really it does not matter because if it is bad I can look forward to how God will take care of and if it is good I can trust God to keep me. So either way it turns out good because His message is good. Remember, He is a good God with good plans for us.
Jesus spoke of an inheritance now in this lifetime and in the end eternal life. Being aware of the inheritance keeps us built up and going for more. I am amazed at how the enemy has been successful in deceiving people into thinking that their only inheritance is heaven. Heaven will be great, but they don’t see that God has great things for them on earth. If people see no benefit in something they see no reason to go for it. I know that many think that it is wrong to expect things from God, but He is the one who said ask. There is more that God wants of us and there is more that He has for us. If we live expecting more of Him we will never be disappointed. He just keeps building and giving.
