BURIED TREASURE
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. (Matthew 13:44 NKJ)
Do you see your measure as a treasure? The measure I am referring to is the grace according to gift of Christ. (Ephesians 4:7) It will benefit us all if we will begin to see it as a treasure and treat it accordingly. Too often we are guilty of taking it for granted. Worse yet, it may be that we don’t even consider it until it is brought up in church and it sort of rings a bell! If we don’t consider it, how will others be interested?
God gives us each a measure of grace, which enables us to follow Christ. This measure is a treasure. As I was seeking the Lord, He spoke in my heart the words, “buried treasure.” He said that His church is full of buried treasure and that He is about to uncover it and release it. He is raising up people who will be as earthmovers uncovering the treasures and miners bringing them to light.
You see a treasure is not a treasure until it is discovered. Until we realize what a treasure God has placed in us it just sits idle. When I was a child we had all kinds of baseball cards. They just sat around in a box and we did not really care that much about them after a while. Many years later when I heard of the huge amounts of money that some baseball cards were bringing, I remembered that we had a box somewhere that was worth a whole lot of money. The problem is, I still have not found that box. I looked a little at first, but then forgot about it again. I really need to make a greater effort, but you see even though I now know there is a treasure there, nothing will happen until I begin to dig for it. It won’t make a lot of difference if I never uncover that treasure, but if I fail to uncover the treasure of God’s gift that will be a big mistake.
You see, even after you read this and consider it you can still do nothing with it just as I have done with the baseball cards. To be honest I have often thought that I would find them when it is really necessary. It may that they will no longer have great value if I keep putting it off. They may have already lost a bunch for all I know.
The same can be true with our treasure. Though it will never lose its value, it will never do us any good buried under our busy lives. The very time and place that it is intended to do us the most good it is left hidden. It is kept out of sight and out of mind. The more we neglect it, the less we will care about it and the less important it becomes. The things that are least important in our lives get the least attention. And so it becomes a vicious circle that keeps moving God’s treasure further and further down on our list of importance.
Folks it is time we see the value of this treasure and let it manifest in our lives for the whole world to see. When you see it as a treasure, others will get a glimpse of it. Does anyone know you have it? Do you know you have it? Get ready. God is in the mood to mine!
