BUSTING RUTS
"I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?"(Luke 18:8 NKJ)
Years ago, we had a very wet spring. We also had a garden plot that was tilled just before the rains, and one night a young man with his four wheel drive proceeded to test his truck’s ability to go through deep mud. From the looks of the ruts, he had a hard time, but did get through. After things dried up a bit, I had the task of getting the garden in shape again for planting. Needless to say, these ruts posed a problem. In fact, it took several years to actually get them completely busted up, at least as far as my eye could tell. It is possible, that there are still evidences that I can not see.
So what does that have to do with faith on the earth? Well, I believe that religion, relationships, complacency, and other things, can make big ruts in our lives. If we get so caught up in what we think, what we want, or what we think we deserve, rather than what Jesus says, we can pack some things in our lives that make it very hard to plow up the ground of our lives to a point where it useful for planting again.
Take this scripture for instance. For years I heard this taught as a reason to just keeping asking and you will wear Jesus down. Still there was this in my heart, that Jesus said ask, and then thank Him. When you really look at this scripture it is telling us that Jesus is not like that Judge who had to be worn down. He says that He will avenge His people speedily. Then He says, “nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” Even though God has promised all this, will He find people believing His Word and trusting Him to do as He says. Or will He find them all full of ruts and hard packed places that no good seed can take root in.
Look at the gospel of John in chapter 6. This is where Jesus is telling them that He is the bread of life that came down from heaven. He says they have to eat this bread. A lot of people think that wanting to know about God is enough. They think that He will understand if they are too busy to really partake of the bread of life. They think that just a form of godliness will be enough. But that is not what He said. The people He said it to at the time knew what He was saying, and many turned away because of it. But Peter told Jesus that they knew He had the words of life so they could not go anywhere else. Later Jesus says, “Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil.?”
What is your ground like. Are you willing to ask God to bust up the hard packed ruts in your life? Will you give Him the time to do it? If He came back today, would He find you seeking Him like never before? Would He find you to be a garden producing wonderful fruit with the truth that has been planted, as well as soil that is always prepared for the planting of new seeds. If you really want to be fruitful, ask God to show you the ruts and hard places in your life.
