BUT THEN I RECALL
But then I recall all you have done, O Lord: I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago. (Ps.77:11)
There is always a breakthrough when we break out and break away from the lies of the devil! God never sends us on a downward spiral. David starts this psalm crying out to God, but has a doubt about God listening, and from there goes down and decides that this is his fate, and that God has turned His hand against him. (vs. 10)
That is a hard spot. It is not a spot that we want to spend any time in. Unfortunately, it is like dropping into a low spot on wet snow. It is hard to rock out of. If you have done it, you know the feeling. You are stuck. No one likes being stuck.
We do not know how long David was stuck before he wrote the next line, but it is a good one. It is one that we can learn from and use freely. It is a line that smoothed the road and filled the rut and elevated David. It will elevate us as well.
David thought about all that God had done. He remembered God’s wonderful deeds. He remembered that when God is for us no weapon formed against us will prosper.
In a prayer prompt this week it was suggested to imagine God standing over you! I got this picture in my mind of God with His foot on my chest and smile on His face like a daddy teasing his child. The look was like He was saying, “Really. I’ve got this.” No matter what it is, He has it. We can trust Him.
We do not need to go the route of doubt. He is who He says He is and will do what He says He will do. He calls us to draw near to Him. How truly amazing is that. Every single day He is waiting to give us a hug and send us out full of life and confidence because we know He is for us.
The simple truth is that He loves us a lot, not just a little on occasion, but always, continuously. He does not want us to be independent, He wants us to depend on Him. In this world, we are told to grow up and be self-sufficient. So, we try to do just that, but it is a struggle. And if we feel weak, we should not show it, but God knows it!
Jesus told us that we could not do anything without Him, so why try? Why not do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
God is with us so that we can make the unknown known. In Acts 17, Paul goes to the Greek wise men and tells them that he knows about the unknown god that they honor amongst all the others. I guess they had one for all seasons and one for just in case. Paul told them that he knew the one that was above them all.
He told them that God’s ultimate purpose was for people to seek Him, find Him, and be found in Him! So, we keep seeking and we keep finding out more and more just how wonderful He is!
