CALLED BY GOD
...You have been called by God. (Ephesians 4:1b NLT)
I am sure you recall the scripture that says, “many are called but few are chosen.” I am also certain that you have heard it said that all one must do in order to be chosen is to respond to the call. So then we can say with all assurance that God is calling all people because He loves all that He has created. We can also say with assurance that if we have answered His call then we have been chosen. Therefore be encouraged; you have been chosen by God! Since we have been chosen, then that must mean that we are on His team. Since we know that God is fair and just, then we know that the benefits of membership are the same for everyone.
As an example we could look at the players in the Super Bowl. Everyone plays a different position, but each one is important to the team. Some of the members will not even play in the game, but they have played their role in practices to make the team great. When it is all over, every member of the winning team will get the same prize. Each one will get a ring and a check. Some may get more publicity, but every will get the same reward. They will be proud to have been on the team. They are on that team because they were chosen.
We are on the Lord’s team because we have been chosen. And now God gives us understanding so that we can encourage others and help them to understand that there is room on the team. The more we understand, the more we realize that it is the best team to be on. As you read through the 4th chapter of Ephesians, you will see that we are warned to hold on to the truth and not change our minds when someone cleverly lies to us and tries to make something else sound like the truth. We know who the father of lies is. It is the devil that tries to distract us from the Truth of God’s word and steal our peace.
God encourages us to keep ourselves united in the Holy Spirit and to bind ourselves together with peace. There is no lasting peace without God. It is God’s great love that provides us with the peace that passes understanding.
This week as I was praying my spirit was filled with a question. “What do you desire most, God’s love or His power.” My answer came quickly. I desire His love the most. Why? Well because His love will last forever. He will always be powerful, and because He loves me, His power will be active in my life, but the fact is that the grass withers and the flower fades. I need His power for healing in my life, but no matter how many times He heals me, I will still die. I am grateful for everything that His power does to create and to provide for me, but all of that will one day fade away. His love is what will last forever. So, if I had to make a choice between His miracles and power and His love, the choice is easily His love. I know, His presence follows His love and His presence exudes power, but the greatest thing from God is His love. That love caused Him to choose us all.
