CAN YOU LOVE

Beloved, if God so loved us, in this incredible way, we also ought to love one another. (1 John 4:11)

What can we do? What can we say? We most definitely are in a time and a season that is foreign to us in the USA. People who lived through wars and drought and travel across the country in covered wagons might think this is not such a terrible time. We can look back and know that we will not only survive; we will ultimately thrive!

How do we know this? We know this because we believe God. Of course, not everyone believes God yet, but one day everyone will! For now, we who know and believe God can do the most natural thing of all; from within us comes the love of God. It is important that we stir that love at all times so that it always mixed in our lives so the taste of God’s love is always there.

God’s love takes on many characteristics. It produces Joy. We have joy ready at all times. We can rejoice at the drop of a hat. We can do that! There may be times when we need to search a bit and strain a bit, but we can do it.

The love of God also produces peace that passes understanding. Joy and peace work together. They may flip flop and peace may make joy work and another time joy might make peace flow. But they are both in the love of God.

Patience, endurance, gentleness, faithfulness, goodness; these are all just waiting to flow out of us as long as we desire that they do. Father in heaven, I need you so. Stand by me each day. Hear me when I pray. Oh I need you. Take me and make me what you will. My whole life is yours. Me with your Spirit fill. For so long I lived without you. Now all I do is think about you. Father, won’t you please use me.

These words erupted from my heart shortly after my salvation as I sat at the piano and worshiped. I understand now that the heart of God in me was crying out for His love to flow through me.

You see all we need to do is what God has put in us to do. We don’t need to agonize and strategize as we attempt to figure out what God wants us to do. If we come up with the idea, we will never be confident that we are doing what He wants. We simply need to do what Buck Owens said in his song and act naturally; naturally according to the Christ that in us is and not according to the flesh that wars against the spirit.

What a great time to be alive and allowed to walk with the Lord through the shadows. People need your love of the Lord, your joy, and your peaceful assurance. We can love. Yes we can! Not with our love, but with His. Remember, you are the light of the world. Jesus said so!
