CAUSE AND EFFECT

For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end. (Hebrews 3:14 NKJ)

“If we hold, we have become.” God has given us the key to sharing all that belongs to Christ, and it is wrapped up in confidence and trust in Him and His ability to do what He says. No matter what comes up in this lifetime, if we will stand on the Truth we will see the fruit of all that Christ has done and is doing for us.

There is a place of rest in the Lord, and even though heaven will be way beyond what we can hope or imagine, it was not the place of rest that God was talking about. From the very beginning God created man for fellowship. He loved walking in the garden and talking with Adam and Eve. Even before God sent them out of the garden, He had a plan to ensure a way of restoring that fellowship with those He loved.

The Word of God tells us that Jesus made the way for us to go right to the throne of God. The living Bible says, “Let us come boldly to the throne of God and stay there to receive His mercy and to find grace to help us in our times of need.” Folks we will not need anything in heaven. It is here and now that we are needy.

We really don’t like to admit we are needy do we? We all want to be self-sufficient. I think that the more we see ourselves as needy and inadequate in our own strength, the more we will see the power of God working in our lives. No matter what we have or don’t have, we are needy, because there is so much more that God can and will do for us.

You know how people often refer to two year olds as being in the “terrible two’s.” My wife has always preferred to call it the teachable two’s. Well, I think that as Christian we often look like are in our terrible two’s. We come to places where we refuse to grow up. We look right at the word of God and defy it. We say we will do it ourselves. We want to have our own way. Well, that is why God tells us to grow up. He wants us to move on and enter into that rest. He wants us to grasp the truth of what Jesus said when He told the disciples that they could do nothing without Him.

God wants us to be totally dependent upon Him. Does that make us weak? No! That makes us strong. He knows the best ways and has power over all things. We can enter that place of fellowship with Him. Deep down we long for that, but we have to keep that trust and confidence to the end of every situation. The same way we trust God to save us through Christ, we must also trust Him to keep us in life. Just as we can trust Him not to change His mind as long as we trust Him for eternity, we can also trust Him to complete every good thing he has promised us.

All God requires of us is that we be faithful. Start out trusting God and keep on trusting God. If we do this, then we will partake of all that belongs to Christ now, and it the end eternal life.
