CELEBRATE
You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. (Philippians 2:5)
We are ready to celebrate the birth of Christ. What is our attitude about that? What was His attitude about that? How did He prepare for His birth?
In heaven he lived without time. He was coming to a world controlled by time. How long was it until it was the right time?
I remember as a child my dad or mom coming and waking me up; telling me it was time to go. When I was kid, it did not keep me awake thinking about waking up like it does from time to time now.
Of course, I know Jesus was perfectly prepared, but it was no small thing. When he came, He spent nine months or so, in His earth mother’s womb. God forming for us so He could be in us.
So here is the deal. As I thought about Christmas, I began to think about His birth in me and His growth in me. And what about my attitude? Is my attitude the same as Christ Jesus had?
I don’t think he grudgingly went along with things because he probably should! Do you do that? I know I have done that. Of course, just because we do that does not make that the way we should be. Oh attitude!
How can I have a bad attitude when Christ dwells richly in me? Fortunately, He is more than happy to take a little authority along with His position.
The same Christ, who humbly came out of heaven to live as a man and die and be raised so we could be born again; He lives in us. He dwells in us through Holy Spirit, who transforms us by the renewing of our minds.
I have no idea how He prepared; I just know He was prepared! I have had so many random thoughts as I considered His amazing attitude. Paul dealt with his past of persecuting Christians. How did Jesus deal with the story of all the babies that were killed as they came after Him?
Like I said, random thoughts. There was far more going on at the birth of Christ that we can imagine, but the more we consider Him, perhaps the more we will appreciate Him.
In less than three weeks, we will once again rejoice that He was born. Many will prayerfully have the opportunity to consider whether He lives in them. There is no doubt that He lives. There is no doubt that He desires to live in every person.
Christmas is more than presents and lights. They are good but what is our attitude? How do we think and feel about Jesus? Lord, help us to have your attitude as we celebrate You.
